  • Looking for help choosing a muffler

Slowly tearing my hair out with the constant flooding I'm getting with the Align pipe. Stripped the engine and muffler out today and both were completely full of fuel despite filling the tank with the lines to the carb pinched.

What I'm looking for is a suitable pipe for the OS50 Hyper that can be used with TREX 600N.
Not too worried about ultimate power as I'm nowhere near capable of using the power but something that will help with starting and be quiet enough to keep the neighbours happy.
I appreciate that similar questions have been asked previously, but things change, and there are probably new pipes on the market that fit the bill, just I'm not sure which ones.
    Any suggestions?

If your looking for quietness rather than power try anyone of these!!

Century Silent Power Tri-Flow Muffler (50 SIZE) CN3038B
Mavrikk 1019HV Hi Volume Muffler OS50 etc Fantastic Value! MH002
    Zimmerman Z3020 Muffler For OS-50/YS-50

P.s if your enigine and exhaust is flooded with fuel then your carb is prob running too rich.

I had a problem with fuel getting to the carb on my 600 last month and it turn out to be the little clamp i was using was worn and letting fuel threw to the carb it is something you can check , i flew on the align 50 and align pipe for years and they work very well ,even on the os 55 they make good power, in my experince the zimmerman pipe is the quietest pipe ive had on the 50 hope you get your problem sorted

At the moment it's 1 turn out on the main and centred on the low. If I turn the heli on its side then it will turn over, but as soon as it's back on the skids, it floods instantly. Tried turning the low in a little, but still it pools fuel in the muffler and the only way of emptying the muffler is to pull the vent tube and tip the heli up. Very little will drain from the back of the muffler just by tipping it up.
It's always been a little so an so to start, just seems to have got worse.

if you can find a 2nd hand CY MP5, it's IMO also pretty quiet.

maybe that's where the fuel comes from. I had the same on my .90 in winter, when it starts badly.

sounds like you are running way to rich, that would be nothing to do with the muffler, it will just do the same again, you need to tune it up first and get it running leaner, i found that to get a hyper on the sweet spot it had to be somewhere between half to 3/4 of a turn out.
Need to do a temp check on the back plate, fly the heli for a bit then land, and then put your finger on the backplate, you should be able to easy hold your finger on the plate for 5 seconds without burning it, if it is cool or only luke warm the engine is to rich

I'm still a bit wary of leaning below 1 turn as in the early days of owning this engine, I blew the piston at just 7/8ths on the main. Albeit on 10% Prosynth.
I'm now running on 20% Opti and the time when it does behave, the backplate is just warm too the touch after a flight. The only real reason I was looking at the pipe was that there are quite a few threads across the web with people experiencing similar problems with the Align pipe and I was just looking at eliminating another item that is making flying just that little bit more troublesome.
