  • help please...Engine keeps stalling or won't start :-(

    As per thread title...

I wonder if any of you guys could help me out here; I'm pulling my hair out with this to the point I'm considering going electric, these intros are a pain in the arse, grrrrr!

I've a 700n with a OS 91HZ combo. Just when I'm about to lift off on the skids, it cuts out and stalls every time and is very difficult to start.

I've striped the engine and cleaned it, everything looks ok. I've striped and cleaned the carb, that looks fine. I've replaced all silicon pipes and even changed the muffler to a new one when the problems started thinking the *old* muffler was knackered. I've opened a new bottle of Optimax (20) which it's always run on and always been fine so as to cancel out a 'fuel' problem.

I'm all out of ideas folks, this is really starting to annoy me.

Any help offered would be hugely welcomed this end

    Tony.

It's really hard to diagnose engine probs without being there.. Where are you? Best thing to do would be to find someone near who can take a look.

Saying that, what engine is it? How old is it? When did the problem start? etc...

      Changed the plug?

      How high is your idle?

      At factory settings?

You haven't by any chance used joining compound between the engine and muffler have you. Little bits can get blown back into the engine when the pipe comes on.

I bought the 700 from a guy on here. It was fine up until a few weeks ago when the clutch broke. I changed that, put it altogether and everything was fine, until it cut out mid-flight, then my troubles started

I've changed the plug, the idle is sitting just off of factory settings...ever so slightly rich (that was how the other guy had it set to) I've set both the needles to two clicks out. I spoke to Raj from UK Align and he told me he always sets his needles like this so he doesn't have to flaff around with the all of the time fine tuning them.

I did use some engine grade stuff I got from Halfords, it was the soft stuff. I thought the muffler wasn't on tight enough, thinking that that was the problem, only to find it had all burnt off. I used some Lynx stuff this time around.

Could it be a compression problem with a worn piston ring, where it's worn and causing the feed from the muffler to not pump the fuel through making it go lean?

imo if the engine is already run in, the two turns on both needles is far too rich, try 1.25-1.5 turns and try that but keep an eye on smoke and temp.

I had a very simiar problem with a hyper 50 after using jointing compound. As I said above small bits get blown back intot he engine and find their way into the plug effectively putting it out. It would idle and allow me to spool up but as soon as I got to headspeed the pipe would come onto tune and the engine would cut. Make sure you ahven't got any debris in there. Low compression would just put you down on power

I'll strip it down again and give it another really good clean out and take it from there

It took me ages to get it to start today. It did the same as usual, that being stalling just before it could lift of and then got progressively worse i.e, less throttle was needed before it would continue to stall. Now I just can't seem to get it to start

is that engine a regulated, pumped version?

Can you turn the engine over by hand? I.e. With the starter wand.

Yes, It's easy to turn over with a wand or fingers :-)

                            Sounds like low compression then.

Stick a new ring in it.

2 turns on each needle is a bit much tbh,try reducing the bottom needle to 1.5 turns(high speed) and try again before you strip stuff.
