i got the engine out tonight ready to install the fan and i noticed on turning the shaft i can hear it rubbing at the back plate , on taking the back plate off it is scored in a circle , any ideas ,im not happy at all
Nothing unusual about this mate. Install it and fly it.. There was a thread about this only a few days ago... Loads of us have seen it or had it happen.
there must be something wrong with it , its sounds awfull something is grinding a nice big circle on the back plate of the engine and when the back plate is on its grinding real bad i can hear it scoring the plate
..you'll have to tell folk where 'local' is...:-)
Do make sure the crank is pushed all the way forwards or 'pulled' through.. as stated by others mounting the fan hub (don't forget the washer) should pull it forwards..but if stll rubbing then it needs a look..what engine?
hi mate , im essex , no not like that its a perfect line going all the way round about 2mm wide and scoring the plate with a little indent , i will get it looked at
If when you have fitted the hub it is still doing it then it could be either the inner bearing is mounted wrong or the crank is to long,
You will get circular swirl marks on the back plate but shoul only have very light contact.

As said, get the fan assembly on it which will pull the crankshaft up and away from touching the bottom plate. Should be fine once you have done that. Post up a picture if you can, it will give us a better idea if its flyable or not.
