  • The danger of plastic blade grips

The plastic blade grips of Trex 600N and Trex 600E are not interchangeable. It is a lesson for the hobbyist in this severe damage yesterday. It’s lucky that no one was hurt. The plastic grips of Trex 600N have the comparatively high strengthen design. Please be reminded that parts of your birds can be dangerous if improperly or carelessly used.

    Happy and safe flying,
    Kenny

    Hi Kenny

What happened there? You tried N grips on an E? Or the other way round?

I have just bought a 600CF-E which has plastic blade grips.

    Cheers - Rob

Those look like the older 600E grips,,all new 600`s including the E come with the beefed up versions,,the headloads between Nitro and electric are the same more or less so the E ones were never a weaker version

I know the blade grips have been changed for the 600n but why is there more stress on them? - same head with the same size blades which are spinning faster on the 600e (my 600n is 2000 and my 600e 2250, just a litlte bit more vibration - how tight were your blade bolts?

Surely if two helis run at a given head-speed, then the forces on the grips are the same, no matter what power plant they have?

From what i have read, the first 600E`s had a weak grip problem which Align sorted and they were Ok,then they beefed them up again for the N and the E..

Thing you gotta ask is how has the grip been treated?,was the bolt far too tight?,has it been in a crash?

Anyway it looks like the frames are intact

The 'N' could have a litle more weight, but not much.

I read a story about this one The Trex Froum, it was looking like the a guy had older grip design on his Nitro which failed. Both the Nitro and Electric have the same part number for the blade grips of H6003.

                    Dear Rob,

I realized that the owner simply placed his old Trex 600E's head assembly to his new Trex 600N to chase up the time for his flying yesterday. The then running headspeed was at 2100 rpm and most likely the grip unable to stand for it. An airborne disintegration had ensued in its 3D manoeuvre. I read a story about the same problem in a Taiwan Forum advising the plastic blades grips of 600N and 600E are not interchangeable. (http://www.align.com.tw/disbb/viewthread.php?tid=15970&extra=page%3D2) Other hobbyists here with their 600N with the original head assembly have never encountered the same problem. As Mr. Nutz mentioned that both the Nitro and Electric have the same part number for the blade grips of H6003. The advice seems apply for the old grips. Perhaps it was the negligence of the owner himself. I am flying my Knight 50-SD with no problem with its plastic grips.

                    Cheers,
                    Kenny

My Knight 3D too has plastic grips and I recently took off my Trex600N alu grips and put a set of plastic ones on (new form a T6N kit) and I actually prefer the plastic grip.

Soon after the 600E first came out, Align identified, and PUBLISISED that there was a fault on the blade grips, and very quickly beef them up, and gave free replacements.

It sure looks like those grips are the original versions.

It's a bit late now to start beating them up, particularly as they treated the issue much more professionally that any other heli manufacturer has ever done.

Why does it always persist down at weekends ?

                          I agree Janek.

As I recall it was spotted as a fault in the plastic showing stress.

At that time there had not been any failures in the air with the new holder being supplied as a precaution.

along the same theme, why is it plastic grips are being put on metal heads, as in the Knight 3d and the 600N/E.
                            All the best

All down to keeping the kit costs down. Same as the Raptor SE, nice metal head block and plastic blade holders ! (and still the ali tail hub !!)
