  • 700 as a first Nitro

Thinking about getting my first nitro. Was looking at the Outrage 90 but then thought of getting an Align which I thought I would never do. as I usually like to have something different from the norm. The reason why Ive changed my mind is the cost and spare parts available, even my local hobbystores sell them so if i need a part urgently I could just pop down the road.

I will probaly buy a second hand one as there are quite a few for sale. What sort of things should I look out for and has the 700 got any on going problems? Thanks.

i have both the trex 700 and velo 90 both fly really well, but the velo just does it better most of the big name shops have velocity parts and most of the parts are lower priced than the align parts and you dont need to replace the tail on the velo 90 as its a far better item, flybarred or flybarless its just a better machine oh thats my opinion anyway

Nothing wrong with a 700 for first nitro. I did it last year, was an easy build and felt great in the air. Nowt wrong with it as a heli either. Look at how many people have them. They can't all be wrong!

I think all current new 700 models come with a improved tail,so it dosent come off in flight .i have had mine since september and it flies like a beast.no crashes no issues so far just dont use alot of locktite as the screws can strip easily, same with any heli i suppose really.

Just out of curiosity, what was wrong with the old tail? I had the Nitro Pro combo (pre LE version) and the tail was pinned as standard. Or was it a different issue?

the only issue i have with my 700 3g is that the tail is sloppy not in flight but on the deck there is loads of slop between the hub and grips and i have to use stronger bolts to hold the tail grips on as they are well cheese like and i have had a bolt head sheer and bring the 700 down apart from that it's cool but still if you have a chance to get the outrage i would do that and i did

I have a 700 and a Velo 90- I went straight from the Trex500 to the Trex 700N and it was fine.

As far as choice, they are both great, but I have personally had a fair bit of grief tweaking the Velo 90 and getting nice to fly. The 700 goes together straight out of the box and is porbably a safer option, though I suspect the newer kits for the Velo 90 have fixed some niggles.

There is still an issue with some spares for the Velo90- look at my saga trying to get hold of main auto gear and most places are still out of stock for starter shafts.

I love flying both and I think both are very good at my level of flying- I would have no issues buying another 700, but I would think twice about a second Velo 90. My level of flying is messy early 3D with tic tocs, backwards, inverted, messy pyro flips and lots of fast flying.

Bit late in on ths one, but T-Rex 700 as your first nitro, is definately the way to go. The Velocity is a great heli (we have one in our display team) but for all round ease of use and parts availaility, the T-Rex is hard to beat as your first nitro. It will lead to more, you can count on it, but from personal exprience, the T-Rex is a great choice as your first.
