I am thinking of buying a flying buddies second hand 700n as a hack and I am aiming to keeps the cost down.

mine is bog standard, apart from i bought the frame washers

Just build it and fly it, I have only had one problems with my and that was the second bung on the fuel tank, it started to leak after around 20 flights but silicon sealant stopped that.
