  • 700 essential upgrades

    Hi all,

I was wondering what essential upgrades were necessary on this machine.

So far I am thinking links, bolt set, clutch, spindle bolts and elevator servo mount.

What do you think and why?

nothing mine is bog standard and has been for 18 months now, and it get abused.
Only thing i have had actually fail was my clutch failed right at the end of my flight to music at the 3d champs last year, but that was the first clutch and my second is still in there now.
Build it, fly it love it

I'd say the frame bolts are worth doing although from what I have read, Align changed the bolt design some time since I bought my 700N (nearly 18 months ago) so they may be better now. Everything else is fine if you ask me (but I did install the metal clutch bearing block in mine when I built it so no idea how the plastic one holds up).

I totally agree with James 50+ hours on my 700 le (Rexy) and no problems appart from self inflicted ones ,lol
DO change the feathering spindle bolts for the Lynx ones though .

Build it and enjoy the awsomness !!!!!!!!!

            I agree completely.

Why make a problem where it doesn't exist? Be careful of what you read on the internet..........

I suppose over the years Align have made improvements to the machine.

Everywhere seems to be out of upgraded clutches so that part must go.

              Is everyone running standard links?

Mine is 3 years old - standard (and original) links, standard (and original) main gear, standard (and original) tail, standard (and original) clutch.

Mine are standard -don't see any need to change them.

I would say the only essential upgrades are the clutch and the clutch bearing block, sooner or later the clutch will fail, so its worth fitting an upgraded one during the build, and the metal bearing block upgrade is worth doing at the same time, as the increased rigidity helps reduce the chances of stripping the main gears compared to the plastic bearing blocks the 700 originally comes with.

Other than those two things nothing else needs doing.

All align bolts need replacing on the 700 - lynx bolts are my suggestion. Get a Quick UK tail as the standard one fails. Get Lynx bolts in the feathering shaft as the standard ones fail. These are mininal upgrades to a great machine.

I've changed the elevator servo mount for the KDE version as the align version wasn't available and I didn't like the idea of that servo mount only being held in by 4 screws going into plastic, but apart from that my 700 is standard.

Those pan head bolts are a PITA.

Changed the elevator servo mount as I went FBL, and was advised that the servo will get hot.

Mine also came with the QUk tail grips

Only essential upgrade is the tail.

                              Everything else will be fine.

If you do decide to do the frame screws then dont bother with Lynx, get Lirons Heli Products - Align Trex 700 upgrades
