  • Tail wag 6003G

Well took the 600LE 3G nitro for its maiden today and started the gyro at 65%. Its a standard kit with a new OS55. Not engaged govner yet as the engine is new and want put through a few tankfuls first.
Massive tail wag so kept on lowering it by 5% until I got down to 15% and I still had a wag. What have I done wrong!
    Thanks as usual
    Paul

        Hey.

What tail servo are you using and also is your 3G unit running V2.1 firmware?
What distance is your tail control horn set to?

As stock on V2.1 the tail lock gain, changeable through the Align PC link software is set a bit too high at 70%. Many as well as myself reduce this down to 50% or a bit less which cures a slight tail wag which can be mistook to be gain induced but its not. In this case the tail lock is trying too hard to maintain a constant heading and causing a bounce.

You mention the engine is new, its not so rich that it is also kicking the tail?

I would look at your Tx and Rx wiring setups - if you altered the gain that much, then my guess is you're not sending a gain value signal to the gyro. So check it's all plugged in right, and that you are actually sending a signal to the right channel with your Tx.

Wiring is ok because I can adjust the amount of wag - the best I got it was to wag about 3" each side

as coolice says, a lot of wag is proberly coming from rich os55, the align system is very sensitive to vibration. hows it mounted with pad plate pad. wires from gyro to control unit free.

                    .
Using V2.1 and using Align 620 , this is not a minor wag but a 6' wag

Not a good idea - the gyro menu is there so you can set it per flight mode.

                      Eg Normal 80%
                      Idleup 1 75%
                      Idleup 2 60%
                      Throttle Hold 85%

Values are for example only and will not be accurate

Engine is running on a curve - govenor disabled until run in, gyro stuck down with pad that come with kit, I wonder if it is not damping the gyro enough
                        Engine is not the cause.

                            Hey.

Are you running any delay? I'm running a DS620 from the 3G on my 550E and it works well, but all my 3G machines I am running at least 30% delay in large heli model on 550+ and small model on my 450 PRO.

Vibration is a known problem for the 3G, if your engine is rich and predetonating it can cause a tail kick, but this is easily fixed with tuning.

If possible, as well as maybe adjust the heading lock gain value, change your mounting configuration. On my 700N with the 3G it was smooth using the Spartan mounting setup, thick foam pad ~ steel plate ~ thin pad. Then I add a velcro strap lightly over the top to limit sensor wobble in hard tic toc style maneuvers.
