  • which main gear is better?

i was going to buy some bunch of spares for my trex 700 in case horror happens.

so i was on fast lads Fast Lad Performance

and saw a bunch of different main and tail drive gears and some new ones but i dont know which ones to buy.

    do i buy the
    new 164t main gear or
    the cnc 164t main gear
or the cnc 115t main gear?
    which is better?

which is better the standard 150t auto tail drive gear or the new m1 104t auto tail drive gear? which is better?

id be greatful if someone could explain why align changed the number of teeths on the gears.

    thanks you
    Long live the flybar.

The std gear is a Mod 0.7 and 164T

When the 700E came they had gear stripping issues and released a Mod 1.0 gear 115T. I believe you can now get a Mod 1.0 Pinion for the Nitro but best to check.

There are actually two versions of the Mod 1 gear. CNC cut from Delrin or the normal Moulded type. FL only stock the CNC gear which you only get 1. (think they also do a pinion/gear Combo?) The Moulded version of the gear comes in the normal pack of two whilsy you only get 1 x CNC gear.

The tail drive gear choice depends on which main gear you are using due to the teeth being different.

Sensible question about the cogs, but I don't really see the point in trying to stock up on spares, just in case.

Say you crash it and break 10 bits. I can guarantee you that you'll have 9 or less bits in stock and not the 10th, so you'll have to place an order anyway and wait for the rebuild. Also, you'll end up with a part or two that never gets bust in a dink anyway.

You could of course buy a complete spare kit for spares!

TRex parts are so commonly available that you can always get what you want by next day delivery, so just take the repairs as they come in my opinion.

It's a personal choice but I like to have gears, blades, bearings, mainshafts etc etc in stock as if i crash on a saturday. I can have the heli rebuilt and flying again for Sunday. I will usually change out most parts at the field too. Admittedly you can break something you don't keep but it depends on the crash.
you can have a heli rebuilt the same day in 80% of crashes just by keeping a few spares on hand. And that for me is loads better than waiting till Tuesday for the spares and then waiting for the weekend to fly again.

so align didn't learn a thing from the 700 nitro then
the 700e having a gear stripping problem just matches the nitro one
they must have used the same quality control dept and let the buyer test the heli

In the early days I got sick of wasting a whole flying day for the sake of a few quids worth of parts. I'm forever trashing TR600 front TT gears with my raggy autos, to the extent I wont leave the house without at least 2 sets. Tail blades, H/fins & skid bows, are always worth having in the bag. I've got 10 rear bearings and 5 fronts and a handful of os no.8's for my os50 and os55. And thanks to Bish I now have a complete spare head, swash, flybar & paddles!
For my 450 I've got pretty much everything, spare blades, gears, servos, booms, flybar, feathering/main shafts.

I see it as a relativly small outlay that can save a precious days flying.
