  • 600 LE Maidened with niggles

    Hi guys and gals,

Just maidened my TRex 600 LE this afternoon managed to get 3 tanks through it.

Engine seemed and sounded very sluggish, setting as per book (OS 50) Needle Valve out 11/2 turns and Mixture Control Screw left as factory set.

First tank I had my training gear on (just in case), at very low revs all was ok but as soon as the revs were increased the training gear vibrated like mad, tried this a couple of times and no difference so landed and took training gear off. Vibration appeared to have gone but the engine still sounded and felt very sluggish, which I thought was just down to a rich run-in mixture. Filled up put another tank through and no difference.

Third tank I wound the Needle Valve in a couple of clicks about 1/4 of a turn to lean it of a bit. After I started it the engine sounded crisper and revved much harder also loads of smoke, (this was what I was expecting in the first place) got it up into a hover again and had a bit of twitching on the tail so landed to dial some gain out. Left engine ticking over and when I took of again the engine was very sluggish again and not wanting to rev also not as much smoke. Landed again a couple of times and moved the Needle Valve back and forward a about a 1/4 turn either side of the 11/2 turns out, with no apparent difference.

    Running 20% Opti fuel
Normal flight mode straight line 0 - 100%
    Gov switched off.

    Cheeers
    Chris.
    Cheers
    Chris.

My OS50 runs between 1 1/8 to 1 1/4 turns out depending on the temp outside so 1.5 turns is a little rich IMO.

Did you feel how hot the back plate was when you landed ?

Is the motor new or 2nd hand, has it run OK in a previous model ?

what pipe are you using ?

    Edit..

What head speed were you running ? Could be that you just weren't getting into the power band if it's too low.

Have you flown nitro before, what throttle curve were you using ?

personally, get someone who has flown one to fine tune the settings for you, it's always going to be hit and miss posting on a forum with the issues above, how rich was the engine after the run? When running in a new engine i like the backplate to be warm but not hot, also as giles said, whats the head speed like? trex 600 le will nod a lot if too low and might be confused with vibration.

I would run a gallon through it then lean the engine to the point that you can only keep you finger on the backplate for around 10 seconds. Would definately recommend someone setting it up for you though if it's first nitro.

I might be way off hear but check the nipple on the fuel tank that goes to your exhaust. It may have swarf in it from manufacturing and not allowing the fuel tank to be pressured properly.

Cheers for the replys guys this is my first nitro heli i've had nitro cars before so I have a bit of experiance with them. It is a new os 50 engine, Align pipe with a linear throttle curve 0 - 100%.

Problem sorted massive "brain fart" on my behalf thought I had the Gov switched off but it was on and with 0% against it.

Just taken it out for a quick blat and wow thats better still set quite rich at 11/2 turns out running really well, will start leaning of the next couple of tanks.

          Thanks again
          Chris.
