  • 700N FBL head problem

    Hi Guys

I have just got my FBL head from fast lads today and i have been sitting here putting it together on my 700N but have come across a problem the box clearly states 700 nitro fbl head kit
Well the link rods that come with the FBL head kit are to short there 83.5mm but bec i have the standard main shaft (as you do with the 700N) then these are to short, what should have been in the kit as well are 71mm links.

Whats bugging me is i dont want to have to buy new main shafts just bec the links are to small and fast lads not list the a short main shaft for the nitros nor longer 71mm links

Iv seen that most people when they buy this kit, it comes with the 71mm links not the short ones and a good friend thought maybe i have the kit for the 700E but as stated above the box clearly states 700 nitro and on fast lads it states it for both Elec and Nitro

    Well now what?

has anyone out there changed there main shaft to the shorter one and you had to change your links to the small links and you have the long ones as spare??

Really could do with some if anyone got any or any advise please

    Cheers

    stevie

I'm a bit confused, do you have a standard shaft or the new short version ?

why are the 83.5m links to short ?

I don't think I understood your post Stevie, you wouldn't change the shaft you would just get different link rods, just a few pence each.

Can you clarify the problem ?

    Cheers

Mine is setup with the standard main shaft and agree the links are all but too short but.!!!!

Just managed to get the correct parameters without buying the latest "shorter" main shaft or links.

You sure you can't get it there Steve.

Sorry about that, right i dont have the short main shaft but the links that come with my FBL head are 63.5mm long and thats to short for the standard main shaft,

I cant find anywhere that sells the longer links 71mm

i know i can wind the ball links out to get the right size but only get about 5mm of thread in to the ball links and i dont want to risk it

Hi mate ive just had the same problem, there is two ways to fix, fast lads sell adjustable turnbuckles in a four pack for about £8 which are slightly longer and leave much more in the ball link, if you use these you will need two spare plastic ball links as two are left hand thread and two are right hand thread.
second way is shorter 700e main shaft, ive got two here and just ended up using the links, can stick one in the post to you if you like,
if you cant find the turnbuckles i will get the part no when i get to work and send it over,
          hope this helps

Yep put the short shaft on it last night and job done, imo there is not enough tread using the rods on the normal shaft to safely use the model.
              Plus it looks wicked

It doesn't help you Steve but it's obvious that Align want us to use the shorter mainshaft with the fbl head and hence the links have been shortened to suit. Why don't Align either advertise the fact or even better FL suggest that you need it the new shorter main when you order the head. This is the 3rd or 4th post on this.

If this kit is a flybarless conversion set then surely it should come with the shorter shaft as part of the kit! Kind of makes sense to have a kit that has all you need to complete the conversion

I agree with all you guys its stupid, esp that short main shaft says its for the 700E and says nothing about using it for the nitro.
Also the instructions that come with the FBL kit says the short main shaft is OPTIONAL!!
                      Not a MUST

Il say one thing does look nice with less parts

                        Usual Align!!

FBL machines usually fly better when the head is closer to the main body anyway so i would probably just buy a set of FBL mainshafts and be done with it! It will make the machine fly better and also makes things easier on you for setting up and also repair later on as you wont be scouring the country for link rods.

Also, Am i missing something??, the rods you have are 83.5 and you want some longer ones at 71mm??

As Vic has said, its hardly a conversion kit if you then have to go and buy something else in order to be able to fit it, something that is quite crucial to the conversion!
