  • 600 N thoughts & Ade ?

This is aimed at those who already have thier machines and paticularly Ade although I understand if you can't comment.

I know it's still early but how does it seem, pros & cons etc & improvements needed ?

    Fixer,

Just putting mine together at the mo. I like the build a lot. Few question marks but nothing you can't get over. Probably the worst one is the Gov magnet bracket arrangment. It could have been better.
I'm going straight for the PTFE dampers as the one's you get are quite soft. Also I have screwed the boom into the frame to prevent it coming out. Apart from that I'm quite impressed for now.

Will post anything else I find.

    Cheers

I've got 2 kits, one red, one white canopy. Just finished putting one of them together, will get its first flight on thursday.

Really enjoyed the build, but have yet to fit a governor as I think my plastic fan is too warped to enable the use of a sensor and magnet. Will be a real headache to go back and fit one as I suspect access will require removal of almost all of the servos. I am hoping that a metal fan will be available shortly.

I am a little concerned about the way the boom attaches to the frames, 6 self tappers are used per side and suspect if the unit is removed a few times the screws will loose their grip. I think metal inserts and m3 bolts are required for this.

Geegar where can you get the PTFE dampers from? and what is tail mod you are talking about, do you have pictures?

Is it necessary to fit any of the optional metal head parts or are they really just bling. I know on the Raptors they are necessary.

From my build and comments on other forums, it is just the Fan, magnet and sensor which are the headache. Yesterday was the first time I got the fan magnet and senor working (after 10+ flights, owning for over a week and having 4 outings). Both the original holes on my fan are now knacked so I had to make a new hole.

To access the sensor just take out the rudder and front right cyclic servo.
I made 2 score lines on my boom just inside the holder so I know if my boom has backed out at all.
My fan shroud came with self tappers instead of M3 (I don't know if others have had this).
Clean all the screws as they tend to have a lot of machine oil on which is no good for thread lock.
Header tank is advisable, I had problem with just a fuel magnet alone.......which is not supplied in the kit.

Thats all I can think of for now.

Any pics of governor mounting and header tank mounting. Please

When people keep talking about the boom slipping am I right in presuming you mean at the main body end and not the tail?

Ash did a review of the metal head upgrades on www.trextuning.com for the 600E - upgrades were generally found to be more bling than requirement.

I am quite happy with mine,i love the overall finish and quality

Problem areas are Dampers are too weak, magnet and governor sensor placement are poor and the self tappers that hold the tail assy to the frames is a bad idea,it needs metal inserts and capbolts....

And it does need a header tank or the engine leans out during flight

I was gonna dive straight in and get a belt one as well but i am going to wait till next year for any faults and improvements to surface

I wont make the same mistake i did with my first batch Sports

I think if you are a 600 owner you'll know what to expect and be happy as you'll know about the Align weak points..

The only issue I've had was the warped fan, I did a few flights before I installed the gov magnet so everything had settled in. I put the sensor (Curtis ATG) on outside of the frame with the acutal sensor poking underneath - I did have to file the frame away a bit to raise it up a bit to stop it rubbing on the fan.

I am also a little consernd about the clutch lining coming out as this does seem to be an issue, expect I'll re glue mine.
                    Clones are bad

                    .... that includes Align ones

Cheers folks, interesting reading and I'll continue to read any additional info. Thinking of a basic as I prefer the belt drive, not because my knight is a problem or to replace it but I was extremely impressed with the 600E, I helped build and setup one for a friend and the way it needed very little adjustment from the get go plus I just love the overall look as a machine but don't want to jump to early.

I have just fitted the PTFE dampers and the head is almost rock solid now so i reckon it will be very sharp and tidy in the air

I will go for the belt one later but for now i will stick with the one Pro version alongside my Knight Sport

The 600n is impressing me so far

Look forward to getting it in the air on Saturday again

I'm 80% of the way through my build, so far it's taken the best part of a day, but I've been stuck out in Germany (again !), so it'll get finished off on my return tonight. Hopefully it'll fly for the first time tomorrow, weather allowing.

For anyone starting their build, delay putting the two frame sides together until the last possible moment, i.e. insert your govenor sensor and servo's in, and engine and clutch fixed to one side only.

                          Only issues I've found:

                          1) The self tappers holding the tail drive assembly in the frames, which would be better as 3mm bolts
                          2) All bolts need de-greasing, as they are pretty oily, especially the feathering spindle bolts (I used red locktite on those )
                          3) They only supply two tail control rod guides, three/four would be better.
                          4) The thrust bearings are a bit of a pain to get into the main blade grips !

I just love the design of the radio tray, plenty of room to get your battery and electronics in tidily, and they are quite well protected by the lips on the molding.

Knowing my propensity for breaking tails, I'll probably replace the tube drive with a belt at my first "upgrade opportunity"

Looking forward to flying this machine, I've already had good reports from all at my field that already have theirs built (bar-stewards)
                          Janek

Why does it always persist down at weekends ?

Flew mine for the first time last night, all I can say is WOW!!!

Even with a brand new hyper running rich this heli is great, flies like a 90, feels light in the air

2nd flight I was flying inverted a few feet off the floor with a big smile on my face

Haven't flown it enough yet to pass judgement on the quality of bearings, screws, bolts, dampers etc.. But this is the first build of a kit that I've done where I followed all link measurements in the manual and it hovered hands off first time, no tracking required or anything.

It's a great build as well, a very neat design by JK, only things I am not happy about at the moment are

                            - fan is a little warped
                            - self tappers holding tail unit on
                            - why does the aerial tube run down the exhaust side, easily fixed I know

So in summary, at the moment 'WELL HAPPY!!!'
