  • 600 Swash Bearing

Has anyone replaced or know anyone that has replaced the main swash bearing. I've just done a bit of maintenance and the swash feels a bit rough. It looks as if the center unscrews with a special tool? Had a quick surf but can't find the bearing or any details

    Cheers

No it won't, the quick UK swash interferes with the 700 ball links you have to use with the fbl head.

      Cheers anyway

We found it setting up a mates 600 at the weekend. There is too little clearance between the ball and the bottom plate on the swash. I don't want to spend another 30 odd quid when I've only just bought this one really. I'll look about and see if I can do anything with what I've got before I start looking at 3rd party stuff, cheers

Cheers Eddie, I'd looked at this but I don't think they are assembled the same. The inner on the 600 screws into the top plate. I've got the old type so I'll have a bash with this one and then have a go at mine. The poxy thing is only 3 months old. I'll fix it and report back.

Curiously for an engineering type what size hammer do you use as a screwdriver?

A quote from a guy on Helifreak
You can't remove the bearing from the swash without making it risky to use again. The reason is, that the bearing is first glued (with a retaining compound)into the lower swash housing; then the upper swash assembly is pressed into the bearing from the top and then the upper assembly is flanged out a the bottom of the bearing so it can't pull back through in flight.
So to take it apart you will have to destroy the flange. And believe me, the flange is very important.

Let me enlighten you, and anyone else bored enough to be reading this. I noticed that there are two machined dimples on the underside of the swash, now these aren't there for show, it costs approx 1p to do that sort of op. So, my thinking, Align have designed this so that their shitty bearings may be replaced by the owner of said swash at his or her convenience. It was with this thought and in the absence of the appropriately dimensioned spanner thingy the hammer and screwdriver would suffice. It was my spare swash that in fairness I could have sold for 3 woodbines and a haversack but I thought it fair game for a trial run.

However, Align haven't designed it thus and a new one or chancing my arm a discussion with Midland about a replacement for said useless bearing will be the remedy
