  • Trex 600 Belt/ Gear mod

Does anyone know of a mod or an upgrade to a mod 1 intermediate gear for the tail drive on the 600 sport?

I've done about 3 this year just catching the blades on the floor, pig of a job to replace, and I hate repairs. Yes, I know stop hitting the blades.

i know a guy at my club that machined some gears out of brass, but i dont know how successful they were.

i would have thought that making the gears stronger could affect other components bending/breaking ??

      Hi Dave,

The danger of making those gears stronger results in pushing the problem somewhere else that might be more expensive. You could either put a longer tail fin on it or land slightly nose forward

Interesting that this problem doesn't seem anywhere as bad on the 700 considering they have the same gears. Infact it takes out tail servo gears instead......mmmmmmmm!!!!!

Yesterdays unfortunate happening was the result of the engine cutting on me inverted, I just managed to get it upright and got it down with a bit of a bump but unfortunately the blades hit and done the gear aswell. I take your point about moving the problem elsewhere though.

        Cheers

T-Rex 700 tail fin sorts the problem out Dave.

All the lads at Stainburn have done this eliminating any further trouble.

              Hi Dave,

Another simply/cheap mod to carry out is to put some spacers under the rear cross member of the landing gear and 'jack' the rear end up alittle. Almost dragster like. This works well too. You do not need much under there to make a difference. You can use three mm tail blade spacers or indeed three mm washers.

              Regards,

              Mark.

I did the 700 tail mod that Tim mentioned after becoming far too good at changing the gears! It does work as it now takes me 10 minutes to do!

Jacking the rear skids up is a cheaper option and would work!

i have converted mine to belt drive because of this, i went in last week witch was down to the earth wire breaking on my flight pack broke the tail blades, boom and main blade even bent the tail rotor shaft so the tail hit hard, but the tail drive gear was ok and the belt is fine
