  • Throttle and tail servo and governor

    Guys,

Putting together a 66 nitro pro, been on a bit of a budget and have a nice JR 770T gyro, and working out what tail servo would be suitable. The reccomended JR servo the 8900G is about a ton new and rarer than my good flying skills, so are there any alternatives that would give a solid and commendable performance but might not be as expensive?

I found some hardly used JR standard servos in my secret box, ballraced, 599 I think, run of the mill and fine for planks. Would one of these be suitable for the throttle servo, or do I need something more responsive as with a governor I am imaging a lot more subtle type inputs is the order of the day.......

Re the governor, seems folklaw suggests the Align model is fine, are there different types, one I saw seemed to have some kind of programming box to go with it?

    Sorry for any silly questions!

If anyone has a 8900G going for sale would also be interested!

    Thanks,

    Gaz

For the tail servo on a budget, an align 620/650 is not a bad choice so really depends what u want to spend

        The align gov is fine.
The std JR servo will do well enough on throttle. Theory states a faster one might be better but you wont notice it until you are doing quite hard 3D. Check if they are good for 6V if you are running that, you may need a step down to 5v.
620 or 650 on the tail - the full size align servos are good value (seems only the 410 450 size servos are suspect). They will also run 6v - in case you are using the align regulator.

          Thanks for the responses,

Just a quicky on the regulator, I have bought an Align 2 in 1, I presumed from what I read (perhaps should have done a bit more reading!!!) that the step down to 5 volts would sort out the digital servos I have which are 4.8 volt........ as in the step down output would feed the Specktrum reciever and all the servos etc.......

Is that not the case, is it only the gyro servo it steps down in which case do I need something else.....? I have not got it yet so can't read the instructions, not manly but hey, that is Ok by me!

          Cheers,

          Gaz

No need, a servo that is rated at 4.8v will be fine even on 6v, the 4.8 rating is based on a four cell NiCd pack, which at full charge is closer to 6v.

As long as its a regualted 6v supply the servo is getting, it will be fine, if more than 6v then you will need a step down, the problems come when you use a five cell 6v NiCd pack with no regulator, where the fully charged voltage is over 7v, this will damage servos not rated as HV.
