  • One more align f@@k up align flybar snapped inflight

Was flying my 600 today and the fly snapped in flight I was only doing some pie dishes. There metal really is crap .Just glad I had taken my n5 to which seems to hold up in flight!!!.

Set the heli up on the table, switch it on and apply a load of cyclic stick in one direction or another. Turn the head all the way round by hand and watch how the paddles change direction as the head goes around. The change direction twice for each cyclic input on each revolution - that's up to 4 times per revolution. If you're doing 2000 head speed, your flybar is twiddling up to 8000 times per minute. Flybars are prone to fatigue failure right by the flybar cage due to the high frequency oscillation in flight.

I've never had one go myself, but there's not much you can do about it really. Some (but not many) flybars have a fatter section in the centre or extended flybar carriers to reduce the likelihood of a failure.

So I've read on other threads, when they go, the heli vibrates a bit but is generally still controllable so is thankfully not too much bother to get down in one piece.

          Another one!!
Try a G-force cage, it has two extra flybars extending 3/4 of the way alongside the original and a one-piece cage, a much stronger set up than standard and the flybar won't break

flybar breaks can happen on pretty much any heli. The flybar flexes at the point it leaves the cage which with time leads to metal fatigue and a break.
The best way to avoid it is to replace your flybar every 6 months or so (not like they are expensive), when they do go it's just some vibration, you should get down ok. The biggest cost is usually if you can't find the flybar and it has an expensive paddle on the end.

i saw this today and its the first time ive seen one go like this....pretty new heli as well so cant really see long term fatigue being the issue in this case.

Doesn't matter how long the flybar has been on the heli for as time is not a main contributing factor to fatigue. The main factors used to determine fatigue life are force magnitude and number of loading/ unloading cycles - (frequency of oscillation is also not a contributing factor unless it creates a secondary effect such as heating the material - not an issue with steel but can be with composites).

Furthermore the breaks are happening at the flybar cage exit as this is where the largest bending moment occurs and thus is the highest point of stress.

When building the 6HV it says when you put the flybar in place with the little lock bits to make sure it has a very small amount of movement ie so it can move ever so slightly through the carrier in either direction.

I just wonder if this would stop all the fb breaks?

I know its obviously not possible with the Trex's but it might be a possible soltion.

Gone through loads of flybars on my 600 so now I'm just starting to convert her to 3G FBL.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

how do you work that one out then ???? , i would like to tell you ive built
just about everything going inc srimok \ avant i am no muppet when it comes to building ect. i also have had models that have had loads more hammer than this and never snapped a flybar some of them where over a year old with 100s of flights on them and never crashed!!!. so its not a build error you can see the flaw in the metal when looking at the brake point in the flybar its not been over tightened as i know where tight is and there was about 1" of bar still coming out of the cage. so if you dont have anything useful to say shut your mouth dumb ass !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
