  • Sticky tail on the 700- is it just mine?

I have finished the build on my 700 and it looks great.

The only problem is that the tail slider sticks and is jerky when it is closest to the boom- the servo does not really like it.

I have disassembled it all and the actual slider is fine on the shaft and has free travel along the whole length. The issue seems to be the small brass collars ( collars A being the worse) that fit in the holes of the control links to allow the collar screws to pass through- they do not seem quite long enough to prevent the collar screw snugging down too tightly and making the link tight. See page 19 on the manual for the bits I mean.

Has anyone else had this issue. It is both collars and so not a one off machining error. I can get the joints loose, but this tends to allow the collar screws to work loose.

I heard there was a similar issue on the 600.

    Any advice welcome.

    Thanks

    Alex

Check to make sure you have not got even the slightest bit of locktite on there as this will cause that.

    Bet its that

    Ask me how I know!

Wow- that was a quick reply

I did wonder, so tried the whole assembly with no loctite and even tried a small amount of grease on the shoulder of the collar screws Still very stiff.

I will disassmeble again tonight and clean it all off again and assemble it dry and see what it is like. Is yours working OK?

It was after I cleaned the smallest amount of locktite that got on the collar

I had this on my 600LE.

The problem was threadlock around the brass collar, it is so easy for it to get in there.

In my case I tried dipping the callar and screws in solvent to get rid of it, well, I say solvent, but the only thing I could find was optifuel so maybe that is why it didn't help.

I ended up using totally new screws and collars (and cleaning out the hole where the collar goes) and then being very carefull when applying the threadlock. I actually applied it with a pin into the thread that the screw was going. This worked.

Before fixing it, I made the mistake of flying it with the stickiness there because it didn't seem too bad, but in the air the tail was wagging really badly and, me being a beginner, caused a landing hard enough to strip the front TT gear.

it took a gallon or two for my 700 tail to loosen up.

I will try totally cleaning it all up again tonight, but I threadlocked the reverse of the socket and put none on the screw, so there was no way any threadlock could have been pushed into the wrong place.

I know one or two fellow club members have had problems with theadlock getting onto the screw and into the brass collar on not only 600's and 700'a but 500's as well, one member had a problem with the slider tightening up on the shaft, it turned out that the shaft was faulty as it had a high spot on it!!!!

I had to file the sides of where the Brass Collar fits on my 600 to ensure that the collar would work. I also had threadlock on the collar as well so cleaning that along with the filing has my tail as smooth as silk!

Have you checked to see if there's any flashing/irregularities on the plastic links that is obstructing the bolt heads? I had a similar problem on one of my Align helis (forget which one) so I sanded the sides of the plastic link very lightly and then it all ran nice and smoothly.

Mine had exactly the same problem, it was the tail output shaft, changed it for another one and it solved the problem

I have worked through it all and the output shaft and slider are fine and run smoothly when not attached to anything.
