  • 700LE Tail (gyro?)

The tail on my 700LE wags by about 3" either side of center.

Its the standard align gyro and I have it set to 40% on my dx7 (the same setup that I have on my 600 and its fine)

Any ideas? should I just try lowering the gain, or do you think there may be another factor causing this

    Thanks

    Mark

    700LE Tail (gyro?)

Fast wag is to much gain, slow wag is not enuff, and if its a gp780, they are known to b very vibe sensitive

        Its the gp750.

I did not think that it was vibrating that much, so maybe i will play around with the gains

Following this one with interest too. My 700le (gp750 & ds650) has always had an anoying 3" wag and occasional drift to the right.

Tried (almost) everything, next step new gyro/servo.

I've also got my gain (GP750) at 40% (using the DX7 ATV's, not the 'Gyro' function) and it holds perfectly -that's with the ball on the outer hole of the 4 armed servo wheel that came with the my Align DS650.

I took my 700 out one day and it would sit in the hover perfectly still. I took my 700 out on another day and the tail was kind of vague as if the gain was a bit low on the gyro. In my case the set screw that holds the tail rotor hub on had come loose.

Go over the tail mechanics again to be sure everything is nice and smooth.....pay close attention to the crank arm on the back of the frame (not too loose) and the tail grips are not notchy...

I may have made some progress...

I took the control rod off the servo and pushed it back and forth, it was very glitchy/gritty. I took the tail apart to find that one of the bearings in the tail holder was a little gritty (5x10x4mm bearing). This is magnified when it gets tightened down.

The bearning is new, but I think I may have damaged it during the build by over tightening the bolt.

I have oredered some new bearings and will report back.

It's got to be worth replacing all the grip bearings, thrusts included. Make sure the thrusts are installed in the right direction and packed with lots of high quality grease Then go over the tail control rod and pitch lever and make sure it's running nice and freely

I checked the thrust bearings last night and they are smooth as silk

I am running the KDE upgrade so there is also another bearing, but again that is ok.

Hopefully my bearing will come this week, but RCBearings was closed last week, so they may have a backlog to clear

With the KDE tail upgrade, I found that they would bind when the screw that goes through the alloy arms into the blade grips was tightened. It was the outer edge of the grips touching the outer edge of the bearings. I had to file a little chamfer around the outer edge of the grips, so they missed the new arms.

also make sure that the torque tube is rigid, it may be worth putting an extra bearing in the torque tube to stiffen it. I had a tail vibe in my old 700 put another bearing on the TT and it cured it.

its due to the vibration of the TT moving in the boom, it upsets the gyro...

This reply is a bit late, as I have been getting married, then honeymoon!!

I tried the 700 out again last night and it is still doing the same thing. This time I noticed that the engine note changes when tail moved. I have the engine (YS91) on the run in settings at the moment.

                              Any further suggestions welcome!
