  • Noisy front torque tube gears!

after rebuilding my 600 and fitting new front tt gears i have just spooled it up to check it over !when i reduce the power and cut the engine the gears sound very noisy and not something i heard before the rebuild!is this the norm for new gears and will they bed in and quieten down?

was the mesh nice and smooth before you refitted the boom block into the heli andy, the t/t bevel gear can be adjusted forwards backwards to acheive a smooth mesh

Ive replaced a few of these gears and never noticed them being any louder because they were new, so it sounds to me as if something is amiss somewhere

The gear might be slightly to far forward, tweek it back a touch by using a lever of some kind, and i expect it will cure it

James, do you mean try and gently lever the gear back into the casing slightly?as the gear is currently around 1mm clear of the casing! is this correct or should it be tight up to casing? also i am getting slight up and down movement from the gear that comes from auto gear!is this normal?

If you pop over to helituning Rob did a 'How to' to set the mesh.

Could you have burred the gear a little when fitting as the teeth sit forwards of the flange (gear in line of TT)

Some of the gears are a little oval/offset on the shaft by a very small amount and it could be that?

If you have a little up/down play thats quite normal.
You can remove it by carefully pushing the gear on the TT towards the front of the model. The tolerances are close and even gently pulling the tail gearbox assemby back in the frames whilst tightning the bolts might just give you enough clearance.

A very usefull tool is the end of an old TT about 6". You can use that to push the gear through the brg when swapping/adjusting them out.

Hi how do you adjust the bevel gear? i've noticed on mine there is quite a bit of slop, and i'm worried about it stripping the gear!

As moonmanflyer has said, you can lever the gear out a tad or push it back in to get the right mesh but this is probably best done before its all refitted back in the heli imo
As Barney mentioned, have a look on helituning theres a 'how to' on there
