  • Beasting the 600LE

    Hello,

Just had a fantastic day flying, albeit ending in a failed auto when I ran out of fuel mid flight (again!).

The near perfect conditions lended themselves to my very aggressive flying, pushing the le to, what seemed to me at least, very fast speeds. I noticed that when the LE was moving very fast, probably 60MPH+, and I slightly pulled back on the cylic, it almost instantaneously pulled into vertical.

Why is this? It seemed extremely responsive, much more than when when I do a stationary loop/roll. It is like it hit a brick wall.

I am not complaining because it felt, and looked, great, but I cannot understand why it behaved like this. Normally, you would expect the response to be slower, the faster you are travelling, no?

    What is going on???

    Cheers,

    Andrew

Ive never really been in this situation but I thought the faster you/anything was going the more sensitive the steering/etc is.

Yes, I agree, in time, but in distance, you expect it to be slower. Today, it seemed to turn from horizontal, to vertical instantaneously in both dimensoins. Much faster than static manoeuvres.

i would imagine your experiencing transitional lift.
when the heli is hovering stationary the blades are moving at "X" mph giving you lift. your seeing "X"+ 60mph= more lift

Yes, but of course on the blade that is travelling backwards will be seeing x-60mph lift!

But you are right, this looks like auto gyational effect, which I dont really understand at present.

It looks really impressive though. I just wish I intended it to happen!! Like I say, the helli just seems to hit a wall and goes vetical!! Cool

The chances are that in VFFF your servos (mainly elevator) is getting over powered and not holding the position you request by the TX.
Add that to the slop in all the head parts and then you have an over rotation in the move you want to make.
the fix would be servos with a lot more power and a slop free swashplate and head.
