  • T-Rex 600 Hack

So I got my New to Me (tm) T-Rex 600n Super Pro with OS50 today Thanks to raptorheli2 and Al at Waterfoot Heli club.

Funnily she matches my current fleet having the yellow and grey lightning canopy and yellow skid bows. It must be fate

I've just started doing loops, rolls, flips etc and need to develop nose in properly and other skills.

This lady is going to have a hard life! She will get whats adequate for the job and nothing more and she will have to work very hard for her keep. She will be getting a lot of abuse and frequent beatings

I did splash out on a Spartan Quark and Align 650 for the tail but the rest wil be as cheap as is reasonable without being crap.

With a bit of luck she will be Flight Status 1 again for the 3DS

Hoping to learn a lot from this girl!

      Ok so an update...

Decided for good or ill to use the 500 for the 3DS comp as I was more familiar with that heli at the time. I doubt it would have made much difference what heli I used to my result

Since I got back I've been out a couple of times now with the 600

Got to say I am liking it a lot!!!

I'm getting Nose in sorted and loops and flips and rolls are fine but I need to be more precise so practice and more practice required.

I need to get the governor fixed but hopefully that will be anyday now. I've replaced the anti rotation guide and used the 'A' frame for the elevator that I had lying around. Also tidied up the wiring. Just got some bolts to replace with RcScrewz ones and that's it, time to make her work!

All in all a great buy for the price

I'm having a ball with this one, hoping to get my Silver in a few weeks if I am lucky

Ok so again an update if anyones interested

Took myself to Waterfoot today. Spent most of a gallon sorting nose in glad to say I'm a LOT happier with this now!

Must say thanks to Dave at waterfoot for the advice about turning around briskly into a nose in orientation, And Tom at Kinross about adding a little power during the turn to climb a little if needed rather than sink. It certainly helped.

So by the end of today I can now fly slowly/fastish and hover nose in at altitude and working down to skids at eye level now. Almost ready to start doing circles as a result.

All this as a result of deciding to compete at 3DS. If I had not then I would probably still be nevously hovering and trying lazy 8's. Instead I feel like I'm making real progress and really enjoying the hobby.

This second hand 600 has to be giving me the best bang per buck yet in the hobby so far!

Had a huge grin all day now

            Well done James..

Dont read to much into all the expense/bling and rubbish banded around on the forums you just dont need it.

Looking at your little bio you have been spending rather a lot!

Just be diligent and do short sessions on the Sim doing your nose in AND more importantly practice your Get Out move..

A trex 600 will take you a long long way. No fancy blades, upgrades required. Just practice, fuel & sim,.

Even better is to stick to the one model and you will learn its idiosyncrasies and learn how to keep it in the air maximising your learning curve.

Well Brian its true you dont need the shiny stuff, but its still nice to have. After all when I was starting I could not fly very well, (same may say I still can't ) But at least the heli's were nice

I've put the Flybar on the 700 and removed the V-bar.

The whole point of the 600 was to get a decent enough machine to develop skills on and not be too worried about how much it cost

I will need better cyclic servos later on but the ones on it just now are not bad.

Its certainly working for me, Only machine I flew today like you say

Oh and Its official, I'm skint

              Regards

              James

Ok so a decent day at the Kinross feild

Started late as weather was crap this morning so finished painting the Kitchen roof and off I went to the field for 2pm ish.

Unlike the england keeper I scored a huge save on my 700 when the glow plug failed! Made my first forced auto and got her down in one piece = Result!!!

That auto practice has paid off. I changed the glow plug and then hovered her nose in for the first time with that heli.

I need to redo the electrics and so that was the lot for her today.

I then got my 600 Hack out and proceded to hover nose in consistently and at lower heights Getting really confident now and even made my first few circles and circuits

So all in all a great day really enjoying my flying now that I can see the improvement and doing more than just hover practice.

Again this heli is worth a fortune to me for the confidence it has given me. Along with competing at 3DS which gave me a kick up the behind and made me try new stuff

                      Way to go Dashik.

Just plug away with that 600 James. At your stage in the Game the Align is devine a perfect tool for the job

Keep at the basics as that is more important than you realise further down the road.

Ok So now I'm doing Circles and Circuits as well as everything else at this level.

                          Still grinning

Landed Nose in for the first time today as well

The take off was a bit ropey but Hey

                          Cheers

                              I most certainly am

As you can see from the list I have my share of heli's, but this is just about the cheapest and is the most fun by far at the moment. A second hand hack with the minimum spent on it

Looking forward to when I can get more out of the others, especially the T-Rex 700.

                              Cheers
