  • 700LE "must dos" during build?

    Hi guys

    Just a quick note to ask if there are any:

    - "must do" upgrades or changes;
    - things to watch out for;
    - tips and trick;

    I should embody into my 700 build?

    Cheers.

    Martin

    Most of the Aligns, fair few Spektrum bits, bunch of Align & HiTec servos, OBE, VD & Bar.

    Definately fit the fuel tank as you assemble the frames Martin.

    It shows to fit later in the build via the manual.

    Forget that... get it in as you put the frames together..

      And plumb it in also just to clarify otherwise you'll never get the fuel tube on the bung.

      The one and only upgrade it needs IMO is an upgraded clutch block. I use to use the one by a bloke on HF, Miro I think his name was and FL use to stock it. Don't know ifthe still do mind. I'll take a look.

      It builds just like the 600, so you'll have no probs

          Talking fuel tanks, consider fitting a header tank. The canopy mounting studs and R-clips are rubbish too, consider the Quick-UK upgrade at £10 or the £30 alternative based on pip-pins by some other manufacturer that I can't remember. Oh, and get yourself an additional rx battery: the stock item lasts about 3-4 flights.

                  The tail needs upgrading IMHO and the control leaver.

                    Header tank, agree.
                    clutch block, don't know. There has been a lot of discussion, stock works for me.
                    Maybe remember to put the magnets in the right way
                    I'm fine with the stock canopy mounts, not using the clips at all.

                    You MUST lock the rudder pushrod supports to the tailboom, but I think that's pretty standard.

                    Don't use too much threadlock on the frame screws, or it may be difficult to get them out later. There are now upgrade screw kits available cheaply (standard socket button screws with machined washers). I still use stock, though.
                    And: skid rubbers to the inside...

                    Don't overtighten the screws that attach the flybar seesaw to the rotorhead.
                    And, attach the paddles carefully. I have seen more than one Align stock paddle that started to twist on the flybar.
                    One guy pointed this out to me in a F3C competition, that one of my paddles was loose. I kept a straight face and said, don't worry, one paddle is sufficient for F3C

                      Quick uk link set martin,not essensial but will take the slop out of the head.do this while your building because beleive me you dont want to be doing it after the build
                      you might want to consider a quk tail also.

                        I have upgraded my frame screws to These they are a much better option than the Align ones
                        I was also advised to slightly enlargen the tank cut cout in the frame which helps prevent fuel foaming. (although I didnt do this as the advice came after I had fitted it)
                        Most important is to strip and re-loctite any pre-assembled parts as the loctiting on them is definately hot and miss.
                        Have fun and enjoy the build

                          I used alcohol (isopropyl alcolhol B.P. from chemests) to degrease all threads to be locktighened.

                          Changed the frame end of the boom support bolts to longer ones.

                          Changed almost all frame bolts to new ones with alloy cup washers Fast Lad Performance except those bolts supplyed are to short!

                          Upgraded clutch block Fast Lad Performance you can now set your own gear mesh.

                          After having some issues with my tail (the hole in the hub to big, and when locked to output shaft it was not 90 deg) I now have the FANTASTIC QuickUK tail, Fast Lad Performance and this Fast Lad Performance

                          I also fitted these Fast Lad Performance Fast Lad Performance Fast Lad Performance Fast Lad Performance Fast Lad Performance Fast Lad Performance Fast Lad Performance Fast Lad Performance

                          O shit! I really dont want to add that lot up!! I'm a bit anal, so hit the buy now on almost all the upgrades on FL's site as you can see!!

                          Good luck with the build, the only issue I have had is the tail, but sorted now, and I love flying this Heli, it's awsome

                            LOL let's start a new thread: How to bling a 700 to death / raise the amount of money in the air to the price of a Vibe SG

                            Most people probably choose the 700 because it's cheap. That you can improve it by spending ridiculous amounts of money is obvious. But the original question is more interesting: What is "essential".

                            In my opinion, a header tank is "essential", because the stock clunk picks up too much air when the tank gets empty.
