  • 700N liner / clutch clearance

I noticed that my starter was sticking in the adaptor... that was the start of it, After taking off the adaptor to check it over with a view to replacing noticed that the whole starter shaft was quite stiff...

Clutch stack out of the heli now and the bearings are shot, they had locked up and started to rotate in the holder and badly scored the pinion as well.. so new pinion, bearings, starter shaft and a new metal holder to I can loctite it all up in there

I also took the oppertunity to measure the clutch and liner clearance whilst it is all out, I make it .4mm (0.81mm total). From a trawl around the concensus seems that 0.2 is closer to what it should be. Clutch doesnt feel weak - no unusual lack of springyness in the shoes.

....So I have ordered a new liner and clutch from FL with the other bits... nearly ordered the new M1 gears whilst there but resisted.... so a couple of notchy bearings have added up to 70 odd quid! LOL

I guess the point I am making is that I would like a little comfort in the clearance being a bit of the large side - no great shakes if I dont need to replace the clutch and liner at the moment - they can sit as spares for when I need to actually do it!

What do you think? 0.4 mm too large a gap?

i suppose if the clearance was too great then you would notice higher revs on spoolup before the clutch engages spinning the blades.
some had similar things happening with the 600LE's clutch being slightly smaller.
