  • My 600LE has developed the shakes. Something up with the OS55?

    Hello everyone,

Before today I flew my 600n about 3 weeks ago and it was running spot on. I had just fitted an A395 muffler and got it all tuned where it was making good power.

I took my helicopters out today and upon lift off of my 600n I immediately noticed that something was up. It was shaking about and was not developing enough power at all. Also, there was hesitation when upping the throttle.

Also, when I walked over to the heli as I landed it and it was idling I noticed that the canopy and the rod that connects the tail servo to the pivot were vibrating quite violently.

Any ideas on what could be up with it? I'm stumped as, like I said, three weeks ago it was running perfectly

    Cheers.

More likely to be loose hub on crank or broken clutch or pinion bearing.. either way 'If in doubt pull the engine'.. at least it's a quick job...

It's running 100% on the Align gov. 2150rpm I think?

You could be right. It's a little warmer since last time by about 5-6 degrees C, possibly slightly more, would this make that much of a difference?

I'll take it out again tomorrow and see if re-tuning makes any difference.

I suppose you're right, it wont take too long to check the engine and clutch to see if everything is tight. If re-tuning doesn't seem to be helping then that's something for me to do on the weekend.

If it shakes itself apart then half the job is done

yes, could be corrosion on the motor bearings. Usually, damaged bearings are quite noisy.
Also check the dampers, whether the feathering shaft can slide to one side.

I've only had 1.25 gallons through it. Would it really be time to change the bearings after that short amount of time? Also, when you say bad bearings are quite noisy, would someone like myself, who has never had any experience of shot bearings, be able to notice this straight away. I mean, is the sound really rather different or is it more subtle?

Lol. When ever I phone Virgin Media because my broadband has cocked up and they tell me to do that I just don't bother. I just wait for 1 minute and say 'Yes, ok it's restarted'

Ahh, ok. I think I can rule bearing out then because I didn't hear anything like a whirring rattle while it was running.

The more I think about it, the more I reckon it's just going to need re-tuning. Hopefully that is the case and I don't have a bigger problem on my hands!

                            Cheers.

Ive done a fair bit of nitro lately, through bloody cold and the raising temps and ive had to have the odd tweak

1.5 turns on both is a good start, mine are both on 1.25 + a few clicks richer
