  • TREX 700 Header Tank?

    Guys,

Last weekend I had 2 forced autos with the TREX 700 and on both occasions this was caused by low fuel in the main tank and me tipping the heli forward to accellerate (and then land in a hurry!)

I know the easy answer to this is to land and refuel when you get to about 20% fuel but this does seem a bit of a waste and it's something I never have to worry about with the Raptor 50 and it's header tank. I've fitted a fuel magnet but clearly this can't help if it's not submerged in fuel.

Is there a header tank option for the model or a smart way round the problem?

    any help appreciated.

    Header tank Simon.

Simple to fit and very effective.

I got a Quick UK header tank and stuck it, minus the bracket, to the main tank with the Ripmax / Ming Yang double sided tape. I then ran a bead of silicon around the edge to seal it from fuel. It works great.

How many people have this problem with not running a header tank...? Although ive only got 15-20 flights on my 700 ive never had any such problem.....inverted or rapid direction changes. These comments are going to give me a complex....and ill end up fitting one.

              Thanx

The scenario which caught me out twice was:
                  • countdown timer sounds
                  • bring heli in to the hover tail-in to check fuel level
                  • see there's just under one inch of fuel left in the tank
                  • think "enough for another couple of aggressive piro stall turns"
                  • turn left/right, full power and forward cyclic
                  • heli accelerates
                  • engine coughs and dies
                  • auto-in, arresting forward speed, land.

                  then, about 5-10 minutes later:
                  • arse stops twitching.
                  • start breathing again.

I've just ordered a header tank from fast-lads. I agree it spoils the lines of the 700 a bit, but it's worth it for me.

OK.....im still amazed people are getting engine problems...especially with 1" of fuel left. My timer is set for 7 minutes which gives me plenty of fuel left so maybe im not getting so low on fuel. Anyway.....if it happens even once ill be fitting a header.

I use a fuel magnet (YS91sr) no header. Last tank i ran had about 2mm of fuel left in the tank. I had no power problems or dead stick! Once the fuel magnet is soaked, it will not let any air in until you run the tank dry.
No problem usuing a header though, suppose its a bit of security too.
                        Thanks, Chris

Oh yes, the fuel magnet will keep the fuel flowing if it's touching some fuel (ie you are in the hover) but if you tip the heli and the fuel magnet spends a few seconds dry then at full power you are heading for an auto.
