  • TREX 700 help please

    Guys,

    Two questions, please:

    • I need to swap out the starter shaft on my 700 after snapping it at the coupling end. I think the easiest way to drop it out is to remove the undercarriage, carbon base plate and engine+fan shroud. The shaft should just drop out then, yes? Then refit is the opposite of removal. Any better ideas?
    • Any tips on tuning the OS 91 HZ Pumped engine? I don't want to run too lean, but don't want to waste fuel or have sub-optimal power either. Clearly I can#t feel the baseplate (the pump is in the way) so is there any good advice to get the last bit of tuning right?

    many thanks,

you should be able to take the clutch assembly out through the top side of the frame. At least I think I remember having done this, without removing the engine.

I'm happily wasting fuel but I fly YS :-)
I think the proper way would be to check the temperature of the cylinderhead. At least on the .50, the baseplate temperature is a rough indication at best

When setting up the OS91HZ-PS just set the main needle to about 2.5 turns open and then lean it off as necessary, mine ended up about 1.5 turns out after running in.

Initially I set the mid range needle to about 0.5 turns, mine stayed there, but the mid range needle doesnt have to be open at all, fully closed the carb is essentially a normal high/idle adjustment carb, just so you know, the mid range needle does not need to be very far open, 0.5 seems slighty rich, but I would rather run an engine slightly on the rich side anyway just to protect it.

        Thanks, guys.

I reckon the clutch will come out via the top of the frame if I drop the maingear off first. I'll let you know how it goes.

          It does.

I did mine about 4 weeks ago.
