  • Metal tail grip bolts on 700?

I recently bought the metal tail grips for a 700 and when I used the bolts that came with them they are not long enough to fully engage the nylon part of the nut. Is this normal as it seemed to be either tighten the bolts up to the point where the blades a clamped rigid or worry that they'll back out?
Fortunately I had some longer bolts with the same length shank that I cut down to be slightly longer than the stock bolts but I was surprised I needed to do this.

the other option is to fit the nyloc the wrong way around so that the nylon goes onto the thread first
not ideal but it does work

I had exactly the same concern as you and I noticed after the first couple of flights that they were indeed coming loose so I also changed them for longer bolts -definitely worth doing.

The cost of the bolts was negligible as I already had them, I was just concerned that either the originals were that short for a reason or I'd got the wrong ones in the box when I bought them.

Hi Graham if i was you i would replace the two 3/8mm bolts that go through the bearings and into the hub model fixings do them 12.9 grade the strongest you can get,the only reason i say that is that i and others have had them break on the metal grips but not on the plastic grips that your 700 came with. Will be the best 70p or so you can spend

I found some maybe 32mm bolts that the shoulder was the same length as the Align ones and then cut them down down so the thread went through the nut correctly.

maybe its a batch thing, wrong ones being put in, ive just built up 2 LE's and neither of those had short bolts, the thread is through the nylon, I checked last night.

as glen said, Ive replaced my hub bolts on both of mine, interestingly on the first machine the bolts were done up really really tight, on the second machine they came undone very easily. there was also a marked difference in the amount of TL the factory have used on each of them.

Kevin, I've ordered that part together with the alloy fuel thingy for the tank and the Align metal tail control arm.

I could do with another one millimetre on my 600LE ones. The mainblade bolts protrude but the tailblade ones are recessed.
