  • Align 2in1 Regulator

Have bought a Trex600LE kit with all the bells and whistles

Just finished putting it together tonight, and am starting the ballache of routing the wiring and all that good stuff.

Have had an issue with the 2in1 RCE-B6T voltage regulator. I charged up the Lipo and clipped it in. When i switched on the regulator switch, it was intermittent (at best) and would turn on and off if the switch had pressure applied to it at all.

So i opened up the switch until and had a look at the soldering and the contacts on the board, which were all good. So i guess it is a dodgy connection within the switch mechanism. I've sprayed in some brake and clutch cleaner (next best thing to contact cleaner) - (worked a treat on my Dx7 circuitry, when i left it out in the rain overnight!!) seems to have sorted the problem, the switch no matter ho hard i press it isn't playing up at all - touch wood! Now if only i can get it to work on my crapped out ipod that got wet

Not sure whether to use it and see how it goes, or just take it back and replace it.............any ideas? I need to run in the engine on the ground in the heli for at least a tank, so i might see if it behaves on the ground, before it goes airbourne, otherwise it could be an expensive failure.

A friend of mine, had a bad crash from a power failure due to the lines to the voltage regulator getting severed on the sharp edges of the main frames, so a word to the wise, make sure all your wires are braided, or padded where they rest against the frame!! Brand new trex 600LE, 2 flights under it's belt, hovering nicely, then suddenly full negative pitch and loud crack and a screaming engine - not nice!

If it were mine, it would be sent back. To much to risk mate. If however, you had this prob after some use, then this may be of help:

The Align 2 in 1 regulators like
    Henseleit TDR V-Bar x2
    SAB Goblin 700 V-Bar
SAB Black Nitro V-Bar YS91 Tareq SRX

Wise words! The rainbow cable is certainly quite fragile.

Yeah sounds like this guy is having the same probs as me. It's brand new fresh out of the box, so i might just bring it back and get a replacement.

Sounds like this is a recurring issue with these regulators, not good considering they come as standard issue in a combo kit!!

Ive had the same problem. I just bypassed the switch

Did you solder across the 2 contacts to bypass?

Do you just unplug the battery, or have you installed your own switch?

              Hi

i just soldered across the switch. So its always on.

I unplug the battery to turn it off. No big deal. Better than the switch failing

I by passsed the switch before I had a problem. I soldered across the pads then put a switch between the LiPo and the 2 in 1. That way when its turn off there is absolutly no current draw on the LiPo which is another issues these units have.

I'm also running 2 LiPo's in parallel as the standard one does not last long. Nice thing about running a switch is making the parallel loom up is easy.

What makes you say there is current draw when the 2-in-1 is turned off?

Only my opinion, but I found these units to be a very dodgy piece of kit.

I had one fail almost immediately on the first use.

Took it back for replacement and got a new one. New one fitted and back flying the next day.

Second day, the lights were goin off and on randomly and no amount of wiggling and pressing would make any difference.
This was on a brand new unit.

Took the thing back and got a refund. Too dodgy to fly IMO.

When mine failed in the same way it got binned, wouldn't use one again as handy as they are.

Even when the unit is turned off at the unit it slowly drains the lipo. If you forget to unplug it and leave it for a couple of weeks it will kill the lipo.

These units are a great idea but as usual with Align kit its produced for maximum profit. It's a real shame that they decided on the crappy switch. I totally striped a broken on apart to see what makes it tick. The quality is average inside but how much extra would a diffrent switch and a couple of blobs of hot glue cost? (It was broked because a wire had come out of the remote lead plug.)

Strange because I've always left the battery plugged in to the 2-in-1 on a 600N which often went unflown for periods of time (sometimes over 6 months) and I haven't noticed any ill effects on the battery. Nor have I noticed the charge going back into the battery being particularly high.

I totally agree about the poor quality of the switch though and the rainbow cable which is really far too fragile to be on a nitro helicopter.

Thanks for all your views guys. I've been looking on a couple of forums about this problem. It seems fairly widespread. As already said the switch is as useful as a chocolate tea pot, so i might just solder across it and unplug the battery to switch everything off. (Think i'll have to polish up my soldering skills first though - it's been a while - don't want a big mess of molten solder all over the chip board, or it'll be back to the shop with my tail between my legs) - 'honestly it came like this'

At least that way i have piece of mind that the bloody thing won't knock off and end in something expensive with colourful language thrown in for good measure

I'm thinking of grabbing another 3600mAh battery as well as the standard 1900mAh that comes in the kit. Should give a little extra life for flying sessions.
