  • 600LE Maiden and observations

Well Maidened the 600LE today and it wasnt with issues. Firstly never try to start an engine with the muffler end plug in. It just isnt going to happen and floods the engine. I spent 15 mins trying to work out why it kept hydro locking. School boy error! Anyway after I took the end plug out, it started first time and the idle was spot on, took it for a hover and it produced a nice strong smoke trail. The tracking was spot on and only required one click of trim to level it. I couldnt believe how stable it was and did 3 tanks through it, feeling the back plate in between tanks and was nice and cool so will begin leaning it out a bit.

    Now the issues were

    - The pressure nipple to the outrage 55 muffler popped off so will need to epoxy it in.
    - The tail had a very slight oscillation (not wag) which I couldnt dial out but may be due to being breezy. running my gain at 70% on the gear channel. Is this normal?
    - After the first tank, on picking the heli up I noticed it developed a slight bit of up and down play in the shaft. I reset the collar on it with no play but after another tank it returned. Is this very slight play normal?
    - My tail blades on build had no slop in them but now they have a bit of slop in them. Is this normal? I did replace the bolts for HT ones by the way.
    - oh and I managed to lose the washer from the glow plug so need to pick up another somewhere.

On a seperate note, had a very nice flight with the pro and managed my first half piro flip and elevator tick tocks which I need to practice more as I lost height quite quickly. For some reason since getting bigger helis its given me more confidence to fling the pro about like I stole it.

Hi Mate, the oscillation on the tail could be that the torque tube is butted up too tight to the gearbox mechanism. This happened on mine and I spent hours with the gyro. Eventually took things apart and when re-assembled, the problem was gone.

      Can't help your pressure nipple

My gain is set at 55% on both (750) gyros that I have
Any higher and it really wags on the ground before lifting off
In the air there seems no difference
On my 401 gyro, it's near opposite, in that the gain is 95% and wags at a lower setting

No play in my shaft collar...checked and have not needed to redo

There's a click of slope in my tail blades...and others that I know of

Your glow washer...you'll just have to find another one

Yes epoxy the nipple in situ, but also part of your problem is the canopy must not rub against the pressure line as the vibration will loosen the nipple. I just dremel a little bit of the canopy away and seal the edge with a smear of epoxy that way no cut pressure lines potentially causing a lean run either.

          cheers Brian

If you're still running rich then that could be causing some unwanted vibes which are upsetting the tail. Once you've leaned it out correctly it might go away.

.....oh, and having fitted a TT to my 600, rather like the meshing with pinion and main gear, is there a "rule of thumb" for TT gear meshing?

I had same problem with the preasure nipple, mine completely killed the thread, should be getting the replacment soon we araldite that sucker in straight away.

i'm thinking araldite as its a harder glue that epoxy any thought on that one?
