  • Numpty TREX 700 Tail Boom Question

    Guys,

I need to swap out the tail boom on my new-to-me TREX 700. I've seen the finless bob video on helifreak.com so I know how it goes together and I'm certain that the torque tube will be fine, however I'm not sure if the rubber grommets that sit over the bearings will need replacing and can't seem to see them referenced as spares on the fast-lad website. Am I missing something or do they normally come supplied with a new torque tube or tail boom?

Also, Bob says to use pure silicone oil to ease the rubber grommets down the tail boom without them jamming. The silicone oil won't eat rubber he says. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a suitable oil or can I just use a bit of vaseline, thin motor oil or olive oil?

    cheers!

The rubber grommits are a total arse IMO.

You have to buy the Torque Tube bearings which come with the supplied rubber bearing cover.

thanks, mate. What threw me here is that the same bearings come supplied with the TT. £6.93 though!

      Any ideas on lubricant anyone?

What makes you think that Tim?
My understanding is they simply provide support and the uneven spacing prevents resonance which seems logical to me. but I stand to be corrected of course.

I mean its a total arse having to buy the complete bearing set for the sake of a 60pence rubber grommit that you actually need Rob.

Hence after every crash I have I rip the rubbers out of the bent boom before I bin it.

I just use a tiny smear of 3 in 1 oil on both bearing holders and just give them a gentle push into the boom horizontally.

Used this method with all my tt models with no problems.

              cheers

Cheers. I don't have any 3 in 1 so I'll use some other thin oil.
