Although you should not have to do this, you can just harden it yourself. Buy some 'casenit' powder and heat the ball end up till cherry red, and plunge it into the powder. You now have a case hardened ball on your shaft

I used to do this to the crown wheels and pinion gears on my 1/8 off road RC cars in the 80's and 90's when the Italians and French cars were made of 'Align' steel!!
