  • Starter wand made of cheesium :(

Well its taken four weekends and
the starter shaft has rounded out already.
It's buggered up both starter couplings
on my 600 & 700 only the vibe one has
    survived this crap starter wand.
Where in the world do they source this
    cheap crap material they use.
Have they not heard of hardening
    and tempering.

I'm sure they have heard of hardening and tempering, but you've bought it now so why should they care?...

You could try taking it back to the shop and declare it as "not fit for purpose".

Align stuff is not designed or built to last - fact. That's why it's cheap. It's designed at a price, is built to have a short to medium (at best) length lifespan and is costed to be replaced regularly. It's the old 'razors for razor blades' syndrome. When Gillette sell you a wet razor for £3.99 in Boots with interchangeable heads, it probably costs them a fiver or something to make it. But, you're now going to keep going back to buy more razor blades for the next 2 years or something aren't you, and at £1.99 a packet, they'll make a bomb out of you over time. All Align products follow this business acumen I'm sure - they make a heli which is aimed at the popular 3D market, a heli that they want you to break, week in and week out, a heli that you just keep on fixing and buying more spares - that's where they make their real profit.

Yes its the new align super starter
Bought it just before xmass & used it 4 weekends.
I've taken my old K&S Shaft out of my old starter
& fitted this to it now.
I expect it would cost more to send back to fastlads
than is worth bothering with to be honest.
Wont be recomending anyone buy one in future though
as it's absolute rubish from the off.
It would get constantly stuck in the starter coupling
from day one & you nearly have to wrestle with the heli
                  decoupling it.

Mine rounded off very quickly as well and then began to get stuck in the Ely.Q starting nut. I replaced the Ely.Q nut with a Raptor one I already had.

But what I used to replace the wand is a hex shaft that is hex shaped all the way up. I also cut the ball off so it's just the straight hex for more contact area. So far this works quite well and if it gets worn I can just cut off the last 1/4 inch. It's a bit of a biatch to replace the wand because you have to drill holes through it but I didn't want to just get another Align wand only to have it do the same again.

Its a shame as I really like the look of them but there so many that have troubles with them.

Its pot luck weather you get a shaft that gets stuck all time or not.

I use the Sullivan wand on my 600 and N9, never any problems with that

Poor Martin's has been rubbish... that hex rounded off quick smart.

I'd send it back mate, your sure to get a replacement shaft

Mine stuck to begin with but is spot on now with no further wear but there is no doubt that it is made from a softish material.
