  • T-Rex 700 / YS 91 SR: Fan wheel and clutch balance?

    Hello,

my fan wheel / clutch assembly seems to be imbalanced. The heli shook quite badly on the ground. When I took it apart, one side of the clutch shoe had touched the top of the clutch bell (the black coating was worn off, but only on one side).

Unfortunately I don't own a dial indicator. Is there any easy solution to this problem without special tools?

I was also wondering about the fan hub: It would have been a *very* tight fit on the SR 91 shaft. Since I know how hard it can be to get those off, I kept turning it while tightening the nut, and the SR 91 shaft slowly cut its way into the fan hub. Now I can take it off without resistance, but there were a lot of aluminium shavings, mainly from the edge where the main shaft is notched for the woodruff key.

Are there any good ideas, what to do about it? I've got one spare fan hub and clutch left over from the 700 electric.

id really invest in a dial indicator. It's also worth checking that the mounting faces of the clutch and hub are both square and no dirt, its strange that one side is rubbing the top and the other isn't.

I had the problem of the clutch rubbing on the bell. The cause in my case was due to me tightening up the engine mount screws whilst the heli was upside down on the table. The fix was to loosen the 4 engine mount screws with the heli right way up which drops the engine and clutch stack a fraction. That sorted things for me.

Thanks... I'll invest in some proper tools.

It's good to know that this has happened to others, so there is nothing wrong with the parts.
I had the same thought about the engine location, and this time I mounted it while the skids were facing down.
