  • 700LE Clutch

Having read the posts about the 600LE clutch problems, it got me thinking about the 700LE one that I am in the process of building.

Now I'm a bit anal when it comes to building things, so I used a dial gauge on the engine fan mount when it was installed on my engine, and it had 1/100th mm run out, so very very good. When I installed the clutch to it, I had a run out of 35/100thmm. Not good at all for balance at 16/17 thou RPM. I then turned it 180 deg on the fan hub, and it read about the same. (These measurements are at the 'solid' point adj. to the fixing bolts, not on the movable 'shoe' area.)

I decided to go ahead and buy the QuickUK clutch, and have installed that tonight. And the run out - 3/100th mm! Spot on!

Also, I measured the diameter of the clutches, and the Align one is 48.32mm and the QuickUK one is 48.62mm. So as expected the QuickUK ones are a little over sized, but a good thing for the life of the clutch as less movement of the shoe needed.

I believe the QUK one drags,
that will explain if it's slightly bigger.
my last clutch lasted about 65 flights and @ £12 i just replaced.
    cheers

I've not seen anywhere about the QuickUK clutches dragging. Any one else had this problem?

My main concern was the out of balance of the std one. I had a slightly 'out of round' alternator rotor on my track bike, and after 20 min riding that, my fingers were tingling and difficult to hang on with the vibes, and that was 14K RPM. Once the prob was found, the bike felt like a different one with no vibes.

with the 700 i had the quick clutch didn't drag as the std clutch had already been used in the liner
the oneway failed on the std clutch so i stuck a quick uk clutch into it

just sand down the liner a little for a nice fit
