  • 700E Main Drive Mod 1 Conversion

    Hi All

Well I've just stripped another Align Main Drive cog on my 700 and it's time to get this sorted properly!
I have received the MH Mod 1 Cog & Steel Drive pinion but I'm running a Kontronik Pyro 30-12 with 6mm shaft so the pinion supplied is useless.
Fastlads have very kindly said they will accept this bit back if I tell them what pinion I'd like as a replacement!
OK question is, being that the new cog is Mod 1 with 115 Teeth instead of the 164 Tooth standard what pinion would I require or is it simply a 14 Tooth 6mm but Mod 1 the same as a Nitro?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but the suppliers asked me what pinion I'd like which I admit threw me for a moment!!!!

    Cheers

    John

    Around a 10T

    Standard gearing gives you a ratio of c. 11.7 to 1 164/14=11.714285

    115/9T=12.777777 to 1

    115/10T=11.5 to 1

    115/11T=10.454545 to 1

Ask richyuk what pinion he is using on his pyro as he has a mod 1 gear.

Just looking at the Kv, I'd go for an 11 tooth pinion for a 12s setup.
You have to get this right, otherwise if it's too big you'll also keep stripping the Mod1 main gears. I'm speaking from experience here :-)

Many thanks - By chance Fastlads only had the 11T in 6mm Mod 1 so that's what I went for.

I've been flying my 700 very gently over the past weeks because it simply strips the cog if you try to accelerate too fast!

It's a shame to bad mouth what is otherwise an excellent heli but this weak point is really pants!

              Cheers

good stuff! i built mine with the mod 1 from the box so not had any issues, and the Kontronik kicks out some power!

Got my Mod 1 Pinion yesterday and went out to try a gentle test flight this morning.
Wow what a difference, I havent Tach'd it yet but the head speed is certainly faster and the heli just seems so much quicker in everything it does.
The only problem today was 8" of loose snow and a temperature of -5 so I lasted for a whole 4 Minutes before my fingers simply wouldent move any more.
Had to clear a metre square so I could land safely, it was a beautiful morning at eight oclock but just too darn cold

I got the beveled main gear from Infinity-hobby.
The test flight was rather short at -16 degrees. Anyway, it's not as noisy as the old Mod 1 straight main gear (of which I have stripped a few...)
I'm curious, whether it lasts... time will tell.

when I flew richys 700le E, I gave it death and it stood up to it just fine, not a hint of a stripped tooth or power drop off. If your stripping main gears in mod1, then I'd suggest that your mesh isn't tight enough!

No not stripping them in Mod 1 it was the Align Mod .7 soft plastic cog that kept giving way!

Only just managed to convert it to Mod 1 today and boy what a difference!!!!
