  • Problems starting Align 91HP

    HAPPY NEW YEAR

    Guys:

    Has anyone had problems starting the Align 91HP in this weather ?

    It seems to get hydro locked as soon as I put the starter on to it ! I can not pump fuel through it like I normally do with my 50. I can turn the wand by hand and feel for the compression with no problems.
    It feels like its flooding even when I have no fuel going through it.

    The engine had 7 flights, first time its started straight away 6 weeks ago, then since we had the cold weather its been a nightmare to start, I am still running it rich with plenty of smoke...

    I can get it started eventually, I know that it does take a bit longer to fire up an engine in the cold but it shouldn't hydro locking like that unless I am flooding it, which am not.
    Something is a amiss, surly that is not normal

    the starter is a Sullivan 12/24v: which usually runs of a 3c 11.1V, Lipo 2200mAh
    changed the power source to;
    12v Battery and still no joy;
    Then a 16 cells 19.2 V, NiMH 3700mAh, still with great difficulties.
    Fuel used, Optimix 20%

    Any advice or suggestion gratefully received..

    Regards
    Keep Well
    Zaidy

      Probably need to flush soem fuel through it if you haven't used it for a while and then removed the plug and flush the fuel out. Then give it a bash.

        Done that with the plug out no problem, as soon as I put the plug back in and try that with the started I get hydro lock !

            I always turn mine over a few times with the fuel clip on.... no chance of a hydro lock and gets the mechs free moving.

            Clip off, glow on and starts up sweet as

              Cld be your bottom end is too rich, and u mite have clicked the trim up to far, try leaning the bottom end a degree

              then get it started, let it idle for a minute, then click the trim dwn one click at a time slowly till it dies, then your know 3clicks above that is your idle point

              it works for me every time

                  That does work sometimes, however even if I have no fuel (fuel clip on, it hydro locks or really tight, ie the starter can not spin the engine) it stops dead on the compression and the starter heats warms, which is good if you have cold hands but not so good for your started coil !

                  I even tried to partially remove the glow plug to reduce the compression on the start, but its still very tight.

                  Cheers

                    have you tried a different starter?

                    Sounds like the engine is ok as it runs well when going

                              The 700 of DJWM struggles in these freezing temps, even with a 5S pack on a Dynatron. The only way to get it to turn over the other weekend was to wind the plug out to lower compression until it fired and then wind it in again...

                              I would assume that if a 5S dynatron could not turn it over then there was no chance a 3S Align or anything else would... could be wrong though
