  • 92 or 95mm tail blades for the 600

Why does CY do 92mm and 95mm tail baldes for the 50's.

Whats the difference between the 2, its only 3mm but still interested as to what the difference is if any.

Want to get some for my 600LE.

depends on tail ratio, head speed and gyro tail servo combo
    cheers Lee

If it ain't broke fix it until it is

No idea on tail ratio, not been run yet so dont know headspeed but I do know I'm using a Spartan and a 9256.

OK what about a brief explanation of whats and whys then.

I've got a pair of 95mm Radix and a pair of 92mm Radix. I use the 92s on my Vibe 50 and the 95s on my Sceadu SDX.

The 92s are not only 3mm shorter, but they have a significantly smaller surface area as well with a thinner chord. Basically the 92s have less authority in the air, so your servo has to work harder to maintain control. This is not necessarily a bad thing. The problem with super fast servos and modern gyros is that in anything but extreme changes of direction, the combination of servo speed, tail blade design and tail mechanism design gives the tail so much authority that the tail servo hardly moves at all. The corrections from the gyro are so instantaneous that the servo only moves a fraction before the correction has been made and it's back to it's neutral setting. The digital servo only has a finite number of pulse positions, so the accuracy of the servo over such a small operating range can be quite reduced. If you reduce the authority of the tail by reducing the size of the tail blades, then the servo will have to move a little bit further to produce the same affect. Now that it's moving, it's working over a broader spectrum of available pulse range, so the accuracy should improve. Of course the down side of the smaller blade is less 'maximum' give at each end of the servo travel, but I believe it's extremely rare for the servo to ever move that far most of the time.

That's how I understand it anyway. Could be a load of old trap!

well in theory the higher the headspeed the more powerful the tail becomes obviously, depending on the head to tail ratio that is 4.5 to 1 on the 600le, which is average high would be 4.8 to 5.
so if your running 2100 -2150 on the head for 3d the tail speed will be 9450-9675.
lower rpms =bigger tails, higher rpm =shorter tails basically
what your looking for is the maximum gyro gain for your flying style

          clear as mud yeah

The Align carbon tail blades are 95mm, I'd go with the Radix 95mm blades.

Not sure mate I havent looked recently, gave my last set away with the 600 pro to Barney that was a big mistake but necessary.
All i can say about them is my set survived 2 crashes & never ever
blew apart if you touched the tail down first in an auto.
Cant say the same for the aligns I'm afraid.
Must get myself another set at some point.

You need some 92s as well to make a fair comparison.

                              This is an interesting thread.

I went digging into my spares box and found no fewer than 4 different sets of tail, blades. When positioned side-by-side, was amazed at the difference in area and section.
Am currently running with the stock Align black cf [60144] ones, which are the biggest, but the others are:
                              Align 3K
                              KBDD
                              SAB

The SAB are about the same volume as the black aligns, but the other 2 are much smaller.
