  • What grease/thread lock?

    Hey all,

Just about to put in an order at FL for the align heli starter and hex too set. While I'm there I'm going to order servo braiding, grease and loctite.

I was thinking about this stuff:

    Fast Lad Performance

Quite expensive but I guess it'll last a fair while.

Or get this for a lot less?

    http://www.fast-lad.co.uk/store/(pv0...ase-p-762.html

Any good? I think this is the stuff Made2Fade recommended, but I forgot the name of the stuff he told me about...

    Hi mate

I always used bike grease with Teflon from Halfords.

Was cheaper but does the same job.

Use the blue thread lock which means you can undo the bolts again with a little effort eg. the cap bolts on the tail boom. This one: http://www.fast-lad.co.uk/store/thre...42-p-1787.html

    Cheers

Regarding the threadlock, I think I have some of that round the house come to think of it

I've used Loctite 243 on most of my helis. You can get that just about anywhere.

        Martin

Most of the Aligns, fair few Spektrum bits, bunch of Align & HiTec servos, OBE, VD & Bar.

The triflow grease or teflon grease I use on the dampers so as not to affect the rubber.

On thrust bearings I use molybdenum grease which is black and sticks quite well. http://www.wilcodirect.co.uk/index.p...oducts_id=3373

On the washout slider, swash and tail pitch slider I use a machine oil. As it is thin it doesn't tend to hold dirt.

On the one way bearing I clean any grease out of it and then use tri flow oil. Some use automatic transmission fluid. Both are thin and work well.

I have found it is not necessary to use loctite on the screws that hold the bearing blocks in and it will also mean you will be able to undo them without knackering them.

Steel tends to lock in aluminium so I don't use loctite on the engine mount either.

+1, though I use the Triflow grease on the thrust bearing too

Same here, much better to buy it in larger containers that actually allow more precise use than the irritating little bottles most model shops sell that contain almost no threadlock and are so rigid that it can be painful to use them at times

Same goes for CA as well

All the "black" screws need cleaning before applying threadlock. Also clean the feathering spindle where the retaining bolts screw in. Align or their supplier leave oil on them.
