  • Do I need a governor??

    Hi guys

I've just got my first Nitro Heli which is a Trex 600 and before that I had a Trex 450 and had just mastered hovering but I got fed up with short flight times and long charging times. My girlfriend has bought me an multigov Pro but will it be okay to use if I'm only hovering? I'm going to fit a Switchglo Pro aswell, as I only have an Ar7000 receiver so I was only going to use one Rpm on the multigov so I can use spare channel for the switchglo, what do you all think?

You don't need a governor for hovering, so don't worry. Just give it a "V" curve in case you need pull out in an emergency.

Will it be okay to fit it anyway as I already have it? Plus I was hoping to use the carbsmart function to regulate engine temp.

Use the governor by all means but I would leave the mixture control out for the moment. You don't need to worry about it too much, run slightly rich whilst hovering about because the engine doesn't really get a chance to cool down as theres not too much air moving across it. I found the governor a great aid when I was hovering. You could argue that you can learn how to set curves if you don't use it though.

I've got gov fitted on mine but dont use it, idle up cure 100, inh, 60, inh 100 then I've added 20% throttle to aile & elev but may not be suitable for just hover.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

Personally, I think a gov is a great idea to use most of the time, as it "looks after" your costly engine, allowing you to apply more concentration to flying the heli. My MultiGov Pro is active all the time - well from 30% throttle - and controls to 1900rpm and 95C. [Only have a DX6i, so just the one set of settings]

I have a 600, a DX7 and, at the moment, the governor I got with my kit is till in the box.

its not an essential item for the level of flying you are doing now
in the future its benefits will become more apparent.
if you have one and put it on , it's not going to do any harm.

I agree.. I only found the governor useful when i started needing to concentrate on the maneuver and collective management more.. As without it i had to manage both the revs and the pitch (maybe i could have changed the curves to compensate for it), but i found the governor solved it for me.. The single tone drone sound is definitely a change from the norm

That happened when i started doing fff and figure of 8s.. As it has been mentioned before it's up to you and what you find more comfortable..

Hook it up and experiment with it on and off and see how you like it.. Be careful to learn how to tune your engine first as when the governor is on it could mask a poorly tuned engine...

                  Good luck ,

I fitted a govner to my trex 600 last month and it makes a lot of differents my flight time has gone up by one minute and now getting more power with slight adustment to the mixture screw...
                    I've got a revlock 10 fitted...
