  • 600 maidened :D

Well today was crunch day. Woke up full of nerves knowing what lay ahead.

Got down to my club DMHC late as useual, no messing around Lee told me to get the heli out as soon as I pulled up and proceeded to check everything for me and set up my gyro (first build on my own n all). He had to alter a few things that werent quite spot on tho as he is the original field mechanic didnt take him long. Was glad that what I'd done was only a turn or two out here and there and others were spot on.

Mike arrived shortley after and joined in helping with the engine settings and between them sorted out my throttle curves being as I am not running a gov due to only having a DX6i.

We filled her up with her first tank of juice and went out to the flightline. I was too nervous so its very first flight was left in the capable hands of Lee. Couple of turns on the ball links soon had the blades in track then went on to drop the headspeed a touch. Was ok but second change developed a wild vibration so back to the pits to check over the heli again. Nothing obvious could be found so we increased the headspeed a litle again and refueled and went back out. During this flight any issues that was there were ironed out and was looking great in the air.

Now then it was my turn, kept having a well timed ciggy or somthing to eat trying to put off the inevitble as was really nervy. In the end after much ribbing about my excuses I filled her up and got her started. Sat her down and walked back ready to spool up. I must of been as white as a sheet, the feelings I felt when I first maidened my 450 were ten fold. Mike told me just think 450 and relax. So cheeks clenched I spooled up took a minute to get the courage to lift off. All started to feel good and as she left the ground for the first time in my hands it felt amazing. Expecting hectic imputs like on the 450 I was pleasantly suprised to find it nigh on sat there. Stayed just in a tail in hover for the best part of the tank before landing again.

What a feeling! I know I have only just hovered her for one flight but Im totally buzzing with excitement and really cant wait to get out and fly some more, only a few more tankfulls and we can start to lean out the engine and can start to try and do some lazys 8's and hopefully a lot more!

Just want to say a HUGE thanks to Lee (Leccylee) and Mike (Bruinbear) for all their help today and taking up their much valued flying time in getting this beauty airborne.

As Chris B, Richie Clark and Pete said to me, I do love it!

Sorry if this has rambled on a bit I just wanted to share my experience with you all.

    Cheers

    Mark

Glad you're loving the 600. I'm not too far ahead of you (in flying time, not ability )

I love my 600 but she's a big old bird spinning in front of you.

    Enjoy!

        Cheers for that Ron!

Also a big thanks to you for the header tank and the starter mate. As you said the Mini Pred packs did the buisness, chuffed to bits with the starter, thanks

                      Cheers Simon!

Your words of encouragement were more than enough!

Your flying was looking good out there today bet it was nice to see Chris putting your heli through its paces.

Have to agree everyone at the club is more than helpfull and is the reason why I am where Im at, so much help, knowledge and encouragement! is what a club is all about in my eyes.

Oh yeah as a side note thank you Aidi for the mince pies they were lovely, have to confess I did have two only cos noone wanted the last one

Well done Mark.. I enjoyed reading that

Big helis sit in the air so comfortably.. Your progress is gonna come on so quick with such a big heli.. It reminds me of the first time i hovered my 600, it takes you by surprise how stable and lovely they are to fly after struggling to keep a 450 under some sort of control..

Great heli! Every time you fly it you'll just love it more and more..

                        Cheers,

I've been rather lazy and laid back, after all it's only a hobby
But I would like to start to push a bit more now

                              Chris was really cool today
First live inverted landing I've seen
Not that I would be pushing to try that anytime soon
