  • Do you use a governor?

After breaking in my 700 I am wondering if I even need a governor? I've sorted a curve that seems to work and I can do some mild 3d without issues

I have the Align stock governor that came with the 700 (infact I have 2) but not sure if I should use one, or if I should just get a limiter like the one built into the AR7100.

    Any opinions/advice for or against?

    Cheers,

I use the align gov on my 600 and it works well.
Its easier to set up than the CSM but has no manual mode so you definitrely need a 7th radio channel.

Folks often didn't bother with governors on .50 size but they normally do now. most have always used governors on .90 size though. In some manoevres the motor is off loaded but the throttle stays open on the throttle curve - which can lead to the motor (and rotor) overspeeding. The head has to do some serious overspeed before any mechanical failure but the motor can have some serious issues like con rods snapping and emerging through the side of the crank case. The loads are more serious the bigger the motor and .90 engines are more vulnerable to damage from overspeeding, and more expensive to buy or repair. The governor is less of a cost on the more expensive heli as well.

I would say fit a governor as soon as you progess beyond mild aerobatics.

I've only just finished breaking the engine in so didn't need to use it. Now that it's all bedded in I'm doing tick-tocks, loops, flips, rolls and inverted circuits and she's flying well. That's pretty much mystyle of flying so couldn't imagine needing one. It's like anything I guess, you won't know until you've tried it. Will fit it over the weekend and see how I get on. Thanks for the advice guys, appreciated.

Yes, I use them both (Align governor) on my 600 NSP and 700 LE.
I think this governor works great!
