Ive got a set of quick uk tail grips for a trex 600 that i want to put on my 700le.I think the 600 has the same grips as the 700.can anyone see a problem with doing this?

The hub is different though Tony. The 700 has a larger tail output shaft. I guess you would have to experiment using the Align hub and Quick grips.

I am doing exactly that, i.e. 600 QuickUK grips on the 700. Compare the part numbers between the 600N grips and the 700N grips HN6103

The hub has a larger diameter on the 700, but the tail rotor shaft is machined down to the same size as the 600.

        EDIT

        Not the hub, the shaft!!

          I stand corrected

So the hubs are the same too?

Yes the hubs are the same, the tail output shaft has a larger diameter until it gets to the area where the hub connects, this is machined down to accept the 600 size hub.

              As can be seen here

saw a vid of a 700 tail shaft snapping in flight earlier this week, maybe this machining down could be causing a weak spot on the shaft.

                Bad design??

I had the turned down section of my tail shaft snap off in flight last year, fairly early on in the heli's life but I've not seem the same failure reported before or since.

The only possible concern was that I had the Quick UK tail fitted and with the small M3 grub screws used to secure the hub, the hub rocked a little on the shaft which could maybe contribute to fatigue Anyway, the 700 has had many flights since without any problems so probably a one off. The original tail shaft was slightly undercut at the base of the turned down section which could also induce cracking, the replacement was much better in this respect.

I think ill try it for size and if theres any rocking on the output shaft then i wont bother with it.Its not worth risking the shaft breaking

The QUK grip/hub assembly is the same unit for the 600 & 700 however......

                      ##WARNING##

The grips now come with an extended grub screw for use with the 700 as I think the recess in the output shaft is deeper. There is even a note in the packet of the latest grips stating the longer grub screw must be used when fitting to the 700. Not sure on the size without removing mine and measuring it but it might be worth giving QUK a call to make sure.

                      Cheers
                      Pete
