Main Shaft

Has anyone ever had problems with new main shafts around the mast stop? My shaft slides up and down the bearings freely but stops a couple of mm short of hitting the mast. The spacing shims also do the same thing. I got it all the way down to the stop with a 1mm shim and its just took me about 20mins trying to pull it out again.

Surely this aint right?

I take it you mean that the machined collar does not sit flush with the top bearing.

If so, I had that problem with one of the first kits in the UK. I had to file very carefully just below the machined collar, you'll feel a slight raised area, just gently file this 'til a shim sits flush.

all sorted! I was afraid to use a file on the main shaft, I had started to use 1200 wet & dry before I thought I'd ask on here.

Yep, I used a very fine file, found the high spot and gently attacked it. Had a shim on the main shaft at the same time and was constantly checking for fit.

It was worth the effort, just wished that aligns manufacturing had this sorted so that it isn't required. But obviously, nearly 18 months later, it isn't
