  • Trex woes..I need a moan and sponsers

It all started when Trex 700 exploded due to a Main blade failure..repairs £500..

My confidence has taken a severe hit..still not 100% TBH.

A severe lack of belief has caused me to just freeze on the sticks everytime when I got into more awkward positions.. 7 crashes later with my poor 600 and things are begining to get better! (previously I had the one in six months)

Moneys tight and could do without all the crashes..but thats part and parcel of R/C heli's. Finally fixed the 700 for Parkhall/3DC....a few flights in and it sheds a taill blade grip mid piro flip (bolt sheared off) 10' of the deck and in she goes..Grrr..One flight on the blades I was testing..Fixed that

Repaired and flown at Parkhall and now trying to get some decent practice for 3DC about 4 gallons in.. and the motor ( YS ST) decides to destroy itself for no apparent reason..was on the money with a cool backplate and didn't suddenly go lean..just a very abrupt change in engine note, power was gone instantly..Hit Hold and down.

Well opened it up..no corrosion or oddities with the brg but the rest is toast..Piston, Liner, Conrod, ring , brg, head, crankcase all marked up and scored..bits of alloy everywhere. Cant even get the damned thing apart as its part jammed up with the debris

Not sure whats the cause was till I get her apart but cant get the blooming liner out (jammed part way out) Piston looks to be whole and was not seized although the liner is scored from bits... i'm guessing the ring is still intact as its alloy bits I'm seeing. Big end of Conrod looks very iffy..that or Piston around the Gudgeon pin area where I cant yet see...

    HEEELLPPPP...GRRRRRR

Keep a cool head mate..... all will be well i'm sure

Mechanical failures are serious stress and it sounds like you have had more than your fair share.

Good luck at the champs mate and don't let your kit get the better of you

Exactly the same symptoms when my YS50 gave up a couple of years ago. Inside of the engine was a mess with nothing worth salvaging. Just sold the carb on eBay and binned the rest of it. Never did work out what had actually let go, maybe because I was too depressed to investigate.

Under extreme conditions, some YSs have been known to split the crankcase in the past - could result in an instant leaning and self destruction. Other possibility is a failure of the check valve, either inherently or by getting clogged with debris which would give exactly the same result.

Bad news. Keep your chin up pal.

Its an exercise in frustration this hobby Barney!

I know its not the same scale etc but I went the same way after binning my T-Rex 500 2 weeks on the trot. Took a while to sort myself out and that only cost £200 in repairs.

Seems you just have to grit your teeth and carry on.

It sounds like you're on a "bit of a downturn". As has been said before, stay positive and your upturn will come, of that I feel sure.

This is the second one of I know of now! This can't be an isolated incident. Something is not quite right there.

Why does it always persist down at weekends ?

same happened to me last saturday in a Tic-toc. Close to € 300. Apparently the 700 tail is the same as used in the 600, only twice the engine poewr?

Unlucky Brian, not having a good run at all, if you are desperate for an engine the week leading up to the champs, give me a shout and i will whip out my ST out of my 700 for you to borrow, i won't be flying that weekend anyway, the only prob is i won't be up until the sunday but i am sure i can get it to you somehow, i.e. i have a couple of mates coming up on friday i think, obviously thats if i have nothing happen to it in between as my luck hasn't been the best the last few weeks either
