  • Trex 700 Clutch????

    Ok,

Went flying yesturday and a superb day out. Fortually last flight of the day my Trex 700 clutch started grabing really badly. Now I've taken it out this morning and the clutch is in one piece but obviously the shoes have spread out.

My question is has anybody had this and simply re-squeezed the shoes back together and got away with it or should I buy a new clutch?

    Thanks in advance guys
    Cheers Matt

    Has the clutch turned blue?
If it's been slipping then the heat generated will soften the metal and contact points move out grabbing before it should, For a quick fix you can squeeze them back but without knowing the metal used it would be hard to heat treat them back to original. I would recommend getting a new one soon, before one side breaks off and jam's the drive and motor, You might not know it's happened in flight but hit the Auto switch and your rotors will stop.
    Paul.

For the sake of £13.57 I would fit a new one Matt as the engine is already out.

Re-fitting it in its current state is a risk IMO.

Have you considered the QuickUK one?

Its supposed to be a bit beefier.

Have thought about a Quick UK, but have seen almost every one that is using one grab from the start

                  Matt

Is that your original one? I know you have put a fair few gallons thru the 700 so its probably done well.

Agree on replacement rather than temporary fix..

once they've over stretched mate the hinge points are weak, so even if you do pinch it back in they'll crack sooner rather than later.
If it is opening that far sounds like you could do with a new liner too
                            cheers Lee
