    interesting, cheers for that

so what about the clutch? thats a weak point too on the nitro, i guess teh quick clutch is a must then?

remember it's align. they will use the same stuff and when there are probs they will sell us a super duper upgrade for £40.

there are 2 hopes of the main gear/clutch surviving in there unless they change it up, and one of those hopes is on the golf course!.

      cheers

The clutch will have to be different from the nitro because the petrol engines operate at significantly lower rpm.

I think that because of the rpms and torque the clutch itself will have to be stronger as will the bell and liner.

The gearing will also be different.

The clue might be in the CAD drawing as these are scale accurate both the main gear and the auto gear look deeper than the original 700....

what they should do imo is hold hands up and just release a mod 1 kit and let us buy it as an upgrade as per what align normally do. i love my 700's and i'd quite happily buy an align mod 1 kit now for them as the cold is coming again so you will see gear problems surfacing aonce more.

            cheers

I'm assuming that's a develpment hack as it doesn't look anything special. I won't be rushing to order one until I've seen how durable they are, or not as the case may be. The main thing in it's favour is likely to be the price of spares.
This will undoubtedly sell, as they'll probably pitch the price right, but there are other gassers on and coming to the market that are better quality than the current Align products.

my understanding of gassers is the ignition system screws the radio system royally, so I'm interested to see what's been done to shield the radio from the spark plug. I'm not sure if 2.4ghz helps in this instance either.

My Cautro camera gasser never suffered one bit from glitching or any interference issues. It had not only a 2.4 spektrum rx at the rear in a box with two satelites externally resting on the boom braces at the front sat a 2.4ghz 200mw tx delivering video transmittion until I sourced a good 100mw. Plus the camera mount was on 35mhz.

Should be no problems on 35mhz system, and defo no problems on 2.4.

Afterall petrols have been in Varios for a long time now....

Following simple precautions can eliminate / minimise interference problems.

I have a gasser with carbon frames.

Ran it on 35mhz with no issues.

Now run it on 2.4 with no issues.

Unless the spark ignition is shielded sufficiently any wires travelling near the engine will pick up magnetic fluctuation and jitter. This is usually resolved with resistor type spark ignition systems but these in themselves can be problematic.
Whilst there are many cases of people not having problems with gassers there are just as many who have had problems AND eventually sold the heli for being unable to resolve it........ hence why I wait to see how Align will deal with this particular issue. I'm not saying it will be an issue, I'm saying it will need to have something on the heli to resolve the problems of spark ignition interference and it remains to be seen how robust that system will be.

The second problem for any gasser is noise, many flying sites ban them entirely as they don't make the required db levels. Again, looking forward to how well Align combats this one.

                          Quick reply here:

                          Electrical noise
Ht lead can be easily shielded to adress that issue.
Resistor spark plug is usually used.

Any wires running near the ignition system can be shielded or have a magnetic ring placed on the wire.

As for the noise from the engine / exhaust. With my gasser + 23cc Zenoah i have had no complaints from my club and i would say it is one of the quietest models there. However my exhaust / manifold was expensive.
The heli will be noisy with the wrong exhaust.

These are my opinions and long term findings.

I left the hobby 3 years ago and discovered Women.

                            I wish I never left.

It is definitely my cup of tea because it takes away the £4 a flight of nitro or the massive cost of vulnerable lipos and replaces it with something considerably cheaper

I expect it is a fair whack more to buy but it should repay itself fairly well
