Looks like a gasser 700 for Christmas !

Well now there is no doubt, Align is moving forward with this project. We just got from our good friends at RC Mania some behind the scenes spy shots of Alan Szabo Jr. getting the T-Rex 700 gasser ready to fly.

It looks like due to the angle of the carburetor and throttle arm they could not use the tail servo location for the throttle servo. So instead they are using a DS510 mini servo where one of the switch slots would have been on the stock nitro frame.

i've got the popcorn ready here lads, there is not a single ounce of a whiffs chance that main gear will last with 28cc going through it with the torque a petrol develops.

do i hear any advances on a half gallon max on a main gear.

it's got to be a machined mod. 1 gear, no way otherwise...

At a push a good helical / herringbone setup. If it's got the stock nitro one on it it'll melt on spool up.

i would think that the main gear would be solid metal of some sort ??

then again it will be under a different kind of load and less rpm ??

The way i see it the main gear has to be stronger with deeper teeth to be able to take the torque like Raptorheli2 said.

Also the frames will have to be thicker to minimise the twisting and stress that the gasser power plant will put upon it.

And the bearings will have to be of higher quality and maybe larger in certain areas.

do not confuse tame with power. this thing will develop more power than any 90....but it's a different kind of power (torque). i.e gear chewing potential just doubled. factor in the same frames (flex) and the lack of a 3rd bearing (would REALLY REALLY help with a 3lb plus engine below it). lets just say if i had one i'd keep main gears in flight box. that said i have a pair of 700's and i already keep them in the flight box!.

I guess when you think of it in terms of glo equivalent in a fixed wing model, a 20cc petrol engine has the same power / torque as a 1.20 glo motor. That's a lot of torque without being high revving.
