TRex700 build

Hi All

Going to call in at midland helis tomorrow to pick up a 700 (if they have any in stock), is there any build tips or upgrades recommended for this machine? Has the main gear problem been sorted in the new kits or do I need to get a replacement parts for this?

It's a fairly straightforward build, if it's a new kit it should in theory come with the new main gear that's a tighter fit. There are of course finless bobs build videos over on Helifreak.

I would recommend dropping it off at my house on the way home and come pick it up in 6 months and I will be able to answer your questions!!!!!! LOL

Fit the fuel tank all plumbed up when assembling the 2 frames, a git to dfo afterwards, and make sure the pipe work is on before engine install, again not easy to do afterwards.

No real tips for the 700 but, during my 600 build I found a few bits and bobs that were almost fitted out of sequence in the manual, specifically the CF frame stiffeners. Having built the frames per the manual, I then had to remove stuff fitted in an earlier step in order to fit the stiffeners.

Moral of the story? Study the manual from end to end prior to commencing the build.

Personally I sealed the rubber fuel tank bungs to the tank with fuel proof black silicone sealant as they can leak mate and they're a bitch to get to once the frames are together as mentioned. Piece of mind an all that

On the plumbing,set the clunk line on the outer hole as this will make life a lot easier when you need to access it,trust me

Metal tail grips are a good upgrade to have also I got the clutch block from fast lads as they got the one from Miro,very worthwhile.

Screws,DO NOT USE the Align screws on the frame as you will regret it when you come to undo them.Invest in some before the you start the build.

You can get some from Liron heli products and they are on special at the mo and by far the most used.If you want them quick get the set from fast lads.

Think that should cover most of the grief.

Main gear is still an original on mine from last november but I do not fly hard.

One tip, make sure you pin the boom into position, I just had my 700 go in because the boom slipped rearward, which disengaged the torque tube, meaning a serious bout of that heli killer known as "Loss of Tail Rotor Effectiveness".

The problem was it did it when the heli was inverted

If I had been aware of this issue, and it seems like a design issue that they havnt bothered to sort out yet even though it must have been present on the older kits, then I would have pinned it..... oh well.

I have always pinned the boom on my Align heli's. It was nice to find that Align have now incorporated a boom pin into the new 600 kits and replacement boom blocks

i pinned the tailcase too as I had to opren the hole up in the boom to allow perpendicular alignment of the tail case.

I can understand why this is done but myself I have never done it on any of my heli's
