  • Nitro headspeed-run time?

I have tried different head speeds to get more power and found 5% more on the align governor took 1 minute off the run time and made the engine alot hotter. I think it was too hot so should richen it a bit which would have taken more from the flight time
I am running 95 % and getting 11 minutes of flying
What does every one else run?

I run 100% on my 600 with OS hyper + header and only get 8 minutes at the most.

How did you measure the power output before and after fitting the governor?

You should tune an engine with the governor disabled first. The governor should not make the engine run hotter, imo.

What are you running at 95%?

I have 7 min on the timer, about 1 min in reserve (incl header tank).
        OS .50, 20 % nitro. It's a bit worn, though.

The motor leans out when throttle goes towards WOT. Probably (given your long 11 min flight time) you were running on the "rich spot" halfway between the two needles. Now that you go towards full power, it runs too lean.

Solution, open the main needle so that it runs richer. Under partial load you want it to run rich, because that takes heat away in those moments where you don't need all the power. That's the same reason why I'd set the idle needle as rich as possible (too much and I risk a flameout when the plug gets too cold).

When you listen carefully (works best when the bearings are new and quiet), you'll hear a "duck" sound when the engine runs too lean. "Quack-quack-quack". Hard to explain, very subtle but unmistakable. If you hear it too often, run richer.

Thanks people the Quack quack sound if you auto in after hard flying is not good
Evo Andy I fly 600 nsp with the align governor as stock. the power that I am talking about is what i feel in punch and climb out ect.
The 95% I am on about is the end piont for the governor which sets the head speed this will be different on JR Futaba ect so the engine speed is 17825 rpm and head speed of 2097 rpm. with the govenor up 5% the engine is doing 18450 rpm head 2170rpm. cheers Paul
