Quick question, the carbon frames are different to the nitro 700, can you buy them as an electric conversion?, i.e. is there a conversion kit on the market?

Fast lads converts the Nitro to an E but if you want what I have which is a complete new frame set designed for the E click here.

But its a little more expensive than the conversion.

As for Hobby King I know so many people that use them and I have since got 2 Flightmax packs of a pal and they perform better than the Outrage packs I got so I will be getting more of those

Yesterday there was a report on a battery fire during flight in a 700 E with Outrage 25 C packs on the local forum.

My next batteries will be 35 C or higher, that's for sure.

The Outrage packs do get hotter than the others I use but they have not come down hot enough for me to worry.

There could have been circumstances which effected the batts and caused the fire.

What explaination did they give or did they not know.

Big question mark. There had been balance problems with one cell and it didn't give full performance before it blew up. Probably one cell failed completely and was toasted by the discharge current.
                  Anyway, this shouldn't happen.

Thats correct it should not happen but if they were having issue/s with that pack it raises the question, should it have been used?

I would not use a pack, especially the size that go in this if it was playing up some how.

Agree, that is maybe a lesson learned here. Well, you live and learn.
                      Fortunately, actual damage was limited.
And I've seen the owner fly it, the LiPo really has to work for its money.

What sort of power are we talking about here? I'm guessing 12s 5000mAh or thereabouts?

Few tips generally about the 700e -

                          - Gear Mesh: Get this as tight as possible whilst maintaining a fairly low resistance on the turning of the gears. Forget the fag paper rule, that just gets you stripped gears. They aren't designed to handle the 8hp that a 12s 5000 will put through them...

                          - Tail Guides: As said earlier, secure the tail guides well and in line, they _will_ come loose if they can.

                          - Amp Draw: My 700e hit 70A rarely - something is wrong if you are getting any thermal cutout issues, possibly you are backing off too much power which will cause excess heat buildup or you have a faulty ESC. My Scorpion ESC had problems with this but the Castle Creations was fine.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Yes - both the one that burned and also my own.
I can get the Jive 80 with a cooling fin into thermal shutdown if I keep doing tictocs for 30 seconds. But my motor pinion is a bit too big - I had planned to use 11 teeth (M1 / 8 mm shaft). But the pinions are too thin and brittle and splinter. Now I'm using 12 teeth.

Thanks guys, i had seen the Fast Lads kit, but noticed that the side frames on the 700 pictured at the beginning of the thread were not the same as the nitro model. Thanks for the link,
